Post what is the best engine for 65 mustang

what is the best engine for a 65 mustang? many have told me a 351w is but some others have told me other things so is there anyone out there that can help me on this i would really appreciate it! thanks!

It all depends on what you want the car to do..and what fits in your budget...if you want fast street, I'd go for a mild 289, or 302...if you want to haul *** ...I'd go for the 351. I plan on going 351 in my 92, but not until I grenade my 302

The question is HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO? I agree with gofastlx on this subject. If you just want a street/daily driver, go with a mild 289/302. Go 351 for hauling butt. I pulled the 5.0L out of my '88 and am going to replace it with a wild 351W. When that motor no longer feeds my need for speed a 351C goes in it's place. I'm working on the latter now. You do realize the simple equation of speed=money. I really finding this out now with the 351C. Anyways figure out your budget and wants and go for it!!!!!

You will find the 351 W will be a tight fit in a 65 the shock towers are your limiting factor. They early 65 are pretty skimpy in this critical deminsion.

I would go with a Fuel injected 302, out of any late model mustang 90 or newer with mass air, speed density if you wish will work fine. More parts for the Mass Air motors, you choice. The conversion is easy and you will get good power.

Save the 351W for a 66 or Newer Stang..

Take into consideration the SIZE of the engine bay. Not alot of room to work with in a 65. Consider things like headers, valve covers, brake system mods, suspension mods, etc. Will the parts you want all FIT happily? Are there version of the parts you want for this particular engine-car combo (ex. headers) ? While they are all pretty much the same, make sure. I've spent the past year and a half doing a 6 cyl to 347 (5.0) swap on my 66. Things like serpentine belt system, power dual master cylinder, Ignition system were very space critical. Think about the entire project, not just engine size.
