I removed my rear sway bar to get rid of excess weight. How many high speed corners are there on a drag strip anyways. Did you already pull your bumpers and brackets off? More weight you don't need. I pulled both my front and rear sway bars out including my bumpers and just left the covers on. The rear sway bar isn't going to give you any traction at launch so get rid of them.

I would not recommend removal of you rear sway bar,it ties the lower control arms together helping to keep your diff centred. Also if you want to gain traction you want to remove weight from the front not the rear ie.weight transfer. As for removel of bumpers think about that, we all think we will never get into a accident! What do you think would happen if you got rear ended or head on i know i would like to have my bumpers it aint worth the extra 10th

Yeah but how many high speed rear enders and head ons are there on the 1320? My reply was basically based on a full on drag car and not your daily driver. My '79 definitely still has the rear sway bar and both bumpers.

It is not recommended to remove your rear sway bar, and will hurt traction, not help.

How is removing the rear sway bar hurting traction. If I remember right the sway bar isn't connected to the rear end anywhere. On my drag car, I hook better with it out than I do in my '79 that still has it. And that was with DOT drag radials on my race car, and BF Goodrich tires with 20lbs. air in the driver.

the sway bar attempts to keep both back tires weighted equally. it tries to keep the rear end level on launch. in doing so it helps keep the car from launching all crossed up. You want your rear sway bar on there. so much so that there are accually rear sway bars avalible that will decrease you 60' times significantly.

If you don't want your car to twist up at launch, install a roll cage. I would also recommend sub-frame connectors and weld up your torque boxes. I ran my '88 with the sway bar and without. But with the roll cage my car didn't twist to hell anyways. My 60' times with the sway bar was 1.80's without was 1.75's. I'm doing the 1/4 at 11.48's. That was on slicks(26x10 M/T's).

I run stock rear bar and have also added extra rear bar from trz. the extra rear bar keeps the front of the car level at launch and both rear tires balanced, left to right w/equal traction. Most chassis shops will tell you to leave the stock one on. I run high 9s at 143 with 1.39 60fts. My car is nhra legal/equiped and rear bar definitely helped. In the end it's your choice go with what the experts say.
