Default Will this rear end fit?

OK, here is the deal. My dad blew the ring and pinion gears, diff and some of the bearings in his 95 Explorer's rear end. He doesn't have time to rebuild it himself and to have it done would cost him a small fortune. So he is just going to get a rear from a junk yard and have it installed.

I have the time to repair the rear since my Stang is off the road for the winter anyways. My question is will the rear end from his 95 Explorer fit in my FOX body Stang? If not what would I need to modify to make it work? His Explorer is a 4.0 V-6, but if I'm not mistaken all the 95 Explorers came with the 8.8 rear in them right?

Any info is good info!

Steve

Default Nope!

Sorry Dude,

I believe you are in over your head. The castings are different, completely different. You stang has Upper and lower control arms the Explore doesn't. That alone would make the deal extremely difficult unless you are a Master welder and could fab up all the brakets and some how manage to fit them properly.
While this isn't impossible, your Dad is headed down the right path, just make sure the gearing is the same front and rear and he should be ok.

Mac..

Default GRRRR

Well that puts a damper on my plans!

Is the Explorer rear even an 8.8 or is it the measly 7.5? What about the lower brackets, are those similar? I just bought a new car so the 83 is off the road for resto/build up, probably for a few years. I plan on using the Maximum Motorsports Torque Arm and Panhard Rod. With the MM T/A I won't be using the upper control arms anyway.

Thanks, Steve
