HELP!!!Dam one wheel wonder!!!!
I am having a problem with the Auburn posi unit in my 8.8 rear end. If i did a heal-toe (still) burnout one wheel would break loose and one would spin. But if i just did a regular (put it to the wood) burnout with no brakes it would pull posi. Any ideas why this could be occurring. Oh yea i think its the clutches in the posi unit cause when i changed the gear fluid it was blacker than charcoal. Thanks for the help.

Hmm, when I run my car into a brick wall, the front end gets a little distorted.
You're holding your foot on the brake and therefore locking up one wheel. It's a sign that your rear brakes are actually working to a degree. A limited slip differential will start working like a regular one at a certain point. I wouldn't worry about it. I would stop doing those type of burnouts, though. You ARE burning out your clutches doing them. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |

first off im not an idiot the last rear end i had didnt have that problem and since the brake pressure resides mostly in the front brakes anyways (about a 60 to 40 ratio) it really shouldnt screw with the clutches in the rear end. Anybody else??

The grinny face was to imply tongue in cheek humor. I was just ribbing you a little, not calling you an idiot.
If both wheels are spinning with the brake applied, then no, you're not burning up your clutch plates in the differential. It's when you are doing the one wheel burnout. If both wheels spin on a regular acceleration burnout, I wouldn't worry about it. That means your differential is working. Here's the scenario as to why it was working like you wanted it to before and why it isn't now. To install the differential, you probably had to loosen the drums some to get them off. In the process of putting them back on, they had to be tightened back up. This readjusted your rear brakes so they would work the way they are supposed to. They're called limited slip differentials, not no-slip differentials. If they didn't slip, you wouldn't be able to turn. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |

ya i know what you mean now, its funny when i swapped the rear ends i had to use the old brake lines from the rear end i took out cause the lines on the rear going in where scrapped. I got everything back in and ill be damned if i didnt brake off a bleeder plug!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!! had to pull one of the brake cylinders off my rear for the new one, holy crap i wonder if the other brake cylinder might be siezed, the wheel that spins is the side i didnt replace!!!! dude your a life saver. thanks!!!!

Ummm, I've been told the Auburn units are not rebuildable. Don't know if this is true, but I have heard this from a couple of sources.

Same thing happens to me, sometimes i get a one legger, but when i just punch it on some concrete, like on the post office lot , i see two marks same length, i thingk holding the brake just isnt good. Hey zeatr, we have some pretty close times, my best is 13.9, but i will be a SOB if i can run that again, im usually in the 14.0-2 range at 96-97 mph, timing is backed off a little, cant afford premium all the time.

Well i changed the gear fluid and threw in some friction modifier and it seems to be getting better as the fluid wears in. I havent tried a standing burnout yet but like i said it could be do to uneven brake pressure in the rear due to a possible seized brake cylinder.

I seem to be in the same boat here. When I engage my line-lock, and hold it for a few seconds, when I left off I am leaving one huge black line. But if I rev it and just dump the clutch, then I leave 2. Will this have any affect on both tires heating up evenly when I get a set of drag radials? I don't know whys its just spining the one with the line-lock.
