Default Went to track, weird timeslip!?

I took my 91 GT out to the track last night for the first time with it's new N/A 331 and ran a 12.87@106, 13.00@106, 13.00@106, and finally a 12.85@106. Adjusted altitude was almost 3500ft last night. My 12.87 run was a 1.91 60ft but my 12.85 run was a 1.82 60ft, what gives??? I did hot lap the car when I ran the 12.85 but could the engines heat kill the power that much???? I would have though gaining a tenth out of the hole should be worth way more than that in the 1/4, even if I did back to back runs. What gives, is running hot (my temp gauge was just over the 1/2 mark) that bad??? Could it be my new 27" ET street's are killing power somewhere??? Or do i need more than 3.55's???

We need a few questions answered first.
Is this a stick or automatic car? What are your rpms through the traps?
Also, get rid of that factory temp. gauge and buy a mechanical gauge so that you know your actual engine temp.

Yeah, what 82GT said.

Look at you MPH. Hmmmmmm..... 106 straight across the board. That tells me you were making "consistant horsepower", so I doubt the heat is what killed you. Actually, heat is GOOD in an engine. I don't MOVE my car unless the temp gauge is at least at 160.

It's a 5-speed car and i am just under 6000rpm at the traps. The dyno puts my peak at 5500 for HP

I would say the difference in E.T is in your shifting.
Normally, as a rule of thumb, that extra .10 in the 60' should have knocked about .2 off the E.T
I think you should experiment with different shift points.

I just watched that first video and all I can say is.......WOW!

However, I did noticed that whomever was driving in the second video was a little late on the shift points.(just an observation)

Are you in 3rd gear or 4th? With the 27 inchers I'm guessing 3rd.

You need 4.10's.

I'm in 3rd gear when i hit the traps, I used to run the 26" et drags but the rpm's were really up there, and i did not want to loose the time shifting into 4th so I went to 27". I'm thinking maybe a shift light is my ticket????

Your dyno peaked HP @5500 with a 331? What was the HP? Are you running stock heads? What's your setup?

Do you have an aftermarket shifter or are you still using the stock one? A shift light won't do much good if you don't have a decent shifter.

I've got a B&M ripper shifter. My combo is a 331 with ported 6037 edelbrocks, typhoon upper and lower intake, 70mmt-body,.......etc. I think i can get 12.6's at 107mph with more practice and some tweaking, for reference there was a Camaro SS (LS-1) dialing 13.6's

Yes, WHOEVER that was driving in the 2nd video really wasn't paying attention to the shift light, AT ALL! LOL

He was prolly just feeling out the motor, I say that cuz it was a really crappy launch too. I hear he's leaving at 6,200 now.

You smart azz! LMAO

Blaster, a shift light will help you out provided 2 things. You put it where you can see it, and you PAY ATTENTION to it. I'm thinking a little more seat time, and you'll be in bizness! Make sure your clutch is adjusted properly too, just a BIT too much slippage will really screw your ET.

So, now you have to find your shift points. Here's how:http://www.welltall.com/ymc/discovery/car/shiftpt.html

or try this:
