weld an intake???
hey everyone i was just toundering if u can weld on an intke without worping it??
the reason i ask is beacuse i was going to weld along the groves on my exploere intake and make them fleush if i can weld on it?? has anyone ever done this or seen it done anything wil help thanks -mike |

it can be done.........you just need a TIG welder

Yep can be done. Just make sure you get someone that knows what they're doing.
Had mine cut, shortened and welded back together.

well i was planing on welding it myself but do u have to use a tig welder wont a wire feed al. on work?? because i have a wire feed at home so i was just woundering

I have never heard of using like aluminum wire in a mig welder. Don't think you can. You would be more pleased with the welds from a tig anyway.

u never seen a al. wire feed welder eh??? ya they make them i worked at a place were all we did is weld al. with wire feed welds.
anyway u r right i would be much more plezed with the tig but not really sure where to take it to get the done. -mike |

Most any machine shop can do it for you. I see that you are in canada, so that might be a chore for you? You don't have to limit yourself to just automotive machine shops either.

You can use aluminum wire in a MIG but you have to use pure argon gas and preheat the piece to be welded and have experience to get good results.

Dude and fellow Canadian. I'm a welder 7yrs. You can use Alu. wire in a Mig welder with Argon gas no problem You dont need to preheat anything. If you are doing it yourself get some rubber mounted die grinder wheels for grinding and polishing they well make your welds look beauti. Peace

fellow canadian (raptor) i was going to do it my self but my mig doesn't have argon gas cuz we use flux core wire for everything even alum. do think it will still work?? or will it heat up to much and worp the intake??

It's simple and easy to preheat the lower intake piece in an oven and reduces the time to reach critical melting temps in the weld pudlle area, do it even though it isn't absolutley necessary - believe me as a guy who has welded over a30+ year period.

Don't do it without Argon it will be crap. Take it to a machine/fabracation/welding shop. Where in Ont. are you?
