I Will Be Racing Next Friday & Saturday, So I NEED To Break 14s. I Have New Tires In My Room, But I Dont Know If They Will Do Much More For Traction. Also, I Have BBK 1-5/8" Equal Legnth Shortys In My Room, But Am Waiting To Do My Whole Exhaust At Once. Any Little Driving Tips, Or Any Other Tips??? ![]() If you are running Street Radials drive off the line DO NOT LAUNCH, go out of the hole easy then roll into the throttle. A set of DOT's like ET STREETS will get you there as well. I went 13.20's on radials, then I went 12.87 on the DOT's with the stock motor.

i cooked my dinner on my intake though!! i am going to the parts shop, and looking for some cheap mods..... maby underdrives?? 2.Did you pull the front swaybar? 3.Make some home-made ram air. Just get an air conditioning/heating duct and some tubing and route it up the fenderwall to the airbox. 4.Pull the front seat out. It's easy on mine. 5.What kind of fuel pressure do you have? ![]() That 2.30 60 foot time is killing you.
A better launch will knock off a tenth, easily. Practice, practice, practice. Powershifting is also worth a tenth but risky if you mess up. Just watch the tach, shift hard and fast @ 5200 - 5400 RPM on a stock 5.0. A good launch and correct shift points should have you in the 14's with ease. More: Try advancing the timing to 14 or 16 degrees. Free and can be worth a tenth. Easily reversed, too. Use 92 octane (or higher) gas. Do an oil change and use synthetic oil. Also worth a tenth. Like Stangin88 mentioned; A cooled (iced) intake is worth a tenth, too. Now you're in the mid 14's. See, this was easy! That'll be $10. please. ![]() |

![]() no one mentioned airing up the front tires, air them up to 45-50psi, but dont forget to take them back down after you leave the track, this will reduce the friction between the tires and the ground and thus make them easier to move, every little bit helps
also if your REALLY desperate (like the time a ran a 14.02 and BADLY wanted to break into 13's) you can pull your serpentine belt, but take the belt and tool that you use to take it off with you so you can put in back on AS SOON as you get off the track, it will easily give you 1-2 tenths, i did it and hit a 13.9X on a worse 60ft than the 14.02, so i know it works pretty well but i wouldnt reccomend you doing it very often good luck, hury up and get rid of those gears and shoot for 13's!! ------------------ 88 Notch, B&M Ripper, 3.73's, Ported E7's, Explorer int. w/ ported lower, pulleys, 1.7RR's, BBK headers, off-road H-pipe, flowmasters, subframes, 65mm TB, March ram air ,MSD coil, U/L control arms, 155lph f/p, Crane Adj.FPR, Nitto drag radials, best 1/4--> 13.76@101.4 on a 2.17 60ft |

![]() You've gotten some great advice here. As mentioned don't try to launch out on street tires, drive it out. With street tires I get the best 60' with a SLIGHT bog while slipping the clutch.
With that MPH, 1/8 and 1/4 , it looks to me like you are shifting too early. If I shift at 5K MPH is like 95-96, if raised to 5.5K it goes to 97-98. This is with the stock tach. Don't take this the wrong way but IMHO you could easily go a tenth (or more) faster by modifying your driving style. It's also cheaper than buying a another part. Good Luck! PS: GEARS! |

![]() Well, I Shift At 5000rpm every gear on the stock tach, but will my 175xxx km engine hold up with 5200-5500 rpm shifts???

![]() he SHOULD try different shift points, as the stock tach is notoriously off, so shifting at 5500 could be 5200 or 5800 as well. short of getting a new tach, the only way i can think of to find out how much yours is off is to run it to the limiter.........(don't do that)

![]() Something that I forgot about is that my eng. is not 100% stock,although it's not far from it. It's got an edelbrock performer intake and 1.7RR's and upgraded valve springs, UD crank pulley and 3.55 gears. Everything else is stock. (hedrs.,mass air,TB,etc.) Even though you are stock try going a little higher (5200-5300). Or if you can get a good tach and check it against the stock one. Do a compression check and/or leakdown test to see what condition everything is in, if everything checks out OK I wouldn't worry about it. The only reason I suggested working on driving is that from what I've seen alot people think they drive well when they really don't. Then they think it's the car so they throw money at it and get mad because their car isn't "running like it should". My first run at the track was 15.2 at 93 mph. After some practice with NO changes to the car I've run a best of 14.06 at 99 mph. My goal this year is 13.xx, with good tires I believe it's possible. I'm no expert by any means, just trying to help. Killercanary, yes, I go to keystone, usually on thurs. for test and tune. I think I've seen your car there before. Is your dads car all white with M/T's and A/C delete? My car is a dark blue '90 GT. I'll probably be there next week so I'll look for you. Good luck with your trans. |

![]() All good advice.....+ I'd let the air out of your rear tires at the track - I run about 20 psi in my rear and I'm able to launch nice and hard. Good luck, I don't think you'll have a problem w/ getting mid-high 14's.

i was told by unit that i should keep it in 3rd. how much should i improve by keepong it in 3rd??? thanks |

![]() Yes, if you do in fact have 3.08's, you should be crossing in 3rd. Right there in eliminating that shift, you'll have your 14 second pass with no problem. Combine all the above and you may see a 14.8 or so when its all said and done.
