351w heads?
Hey everyone,
I was browsing the web for used car part stores with 351w heads (needless to say nobody has them sxcept for Advance), and came across this site. I've got an 86 Mustang GT, and am going this weekend to pick up my 351w short block. I've currently got 4.10 gears in the rear, will be mating the engine for a C4 tranny, and plan on using some long tube headers - all motor setup. My question is, what are some decent heads that I might be able to find used for this engine. I'm not looking for race heads yet, I just need to get the thing to turn over and go - but on the other hand I don't want something that breathes like the heads on my Daily Driver v6 Firebird :-P Looking to keep spending under 500 for a set, and later on I'll be in the price range of about 2k for heads, so again, not important to have the car crack into the 10s/11s right now. |

Re: 351w heads?
The 69 heads are pretty good. The DO0e castings aren't bad with some porting done to them.

Re: 351w heads?
I'll have to PM(You guys run on the same server as TR, I'm guessing you call it PM here, too?) this rev guy and ask, thanks for the tip. I called Advance, actually, and asked about 69 heads, they want like 225 per head, thats just...no. Oh, its an 85 block, I forgot to mention that, dunno if any heads would have problems bolting up to them.
Also, would those stock heads mentioned drop the compression in the engine? Its going to be high compression, and I'll have a nice set of pistons in it right out of the box for that purpose - so will I be running like 8:1 compression with shitty stock heads and be able to pour regular in the car? |

Re: 351w heads?
If you want GOOD CHEAP heads, ready to go. Hit ebay, and look for a set of Windsor Sr. heads. I had a set, and absolutely loved 'em! You should be able to pick up a set ready to go for around $700 or so.

Re: 351w heads?
Yep, I still have the 351W heads. They are professionally pocket ported and gasket matched. They were recently completely disassembled, cleaned and inspected by the shop that built them originally. They have a 3 angle fresh valve job and are in excellent condition. They also include a set of Comp Cams "Magnum" roller tip rockers. These heads do have pressed in studs and "rail" type rockers. They were good for 5500 rpm and about 300 HP on my 306 CI engine. PM me if you are interested. $350 + shipping.

Re: 351w heads?
Well now, those sound very appealing, and I'd love to take them off your hands...cept for one problem.
The bastard I was buying the 351 block from fell off the earth on teh day of pickup...and all I get now are apologies from him for not getting together with me...so I need to find another 351w block before I can do anything. Piss, I'm so over this damn stuff I'm about ready to buy a tired old 302. |
