Default High HP motor & manual trans ?

We're dropping a Keith Craft 331 into an 88GT with a Vortec T-Trim supercharger. The question of the day is what manual trans and clutch will hold 600+ RWHP? We called Tremac - their T-5s will only hold 600ft lb of torque.

You got a few choices here. G-Force makes a killer tranny. What ya really need to do is call Walt at Pr-Motion in FLA. (I gotta get my azz to work, I'll post his number later tonight). I'm going to be putting out about 580HP +200 worth of spray. Walt hooked me up with a pro shifted TKO II with all the goodies, and a kevlar clutch. He'll make you go fast, and he's a heck of a nice guy too!

Viper T-56 are pretty sweet but they are about 3800. I got the standard version which was 2500 bucks.

i think it is rated at 550hp. they have a new terminator listed at 650hp but i'm not sure if it is a 5-speed or 6-speed. G-force makes a t-56 to handle 900 ponies which would be more than enough.

I picked up my TKO II for $1250, and then sent it to Walt. He put another $1250 into it, and it'll handle 800HP+ Clutch setup was $300 from him.

Make sure you let us know what you decide on, always interesting to see the different ideas and combinations out there.

We've been looking at the SPEC-III and Mcleod clutches. SPEC-III I think will work, but it's a little tricky running on the street. The Mcleod I'm told will hook all day long whatever you throw at it, and it feels like a stock clutch, but the price is a bit of a killer.

Do you have your updated tranny and clutch installed from Walt? I'm interested in how the clutch pedal feels.

The clutch I'm running right now is a sintered iron clutch. Might as well be hooked up to a toggle switch, it's either ON or OFF. hehehehe Kinda tough on the street, but it works for now. Gonna throw the Kevlar clutch in here next weekend, gettin ready for Fun Ford in Norwalk.

That's what I hear about the SPEC clutches, on or off, hook or not. Let me know how the Kevlar clutch goes - good luck at FFW in Norwalk!

Thanks! But I'm gonna use up all my luck getting this thing DONE, let alone when I finally get there!

I think we're gonna put both cars in Fast Ford this year, leaving True Street alone.

I will definitely keep you posted on the Kevlar clutch. I talked to Walt yesterday, he said alot of Pure Street guys are running that clutch with great luck.

My son talked to Walt "Da Tranny Man" today, Walt suggested running a Tremmac TKO 600. He said the big guns run this tranny without any problems. He also suggested the Mcleod dual-friction clutch.

I was a little surprised on his trans recommendations, I've heard from others to go with G-Force internals all the way.

They run the TKO 600 that HE'S gone through. That's kinda odd that he suggested the MacLeod clutch though, he's always recommend the Kevlar single disc to me. For BOTH cars even.

Don't want to discourage you, but that strikes me really odd. Did your son happen to ask him about the Kevlar single disc setup?

My son is 19, sometimes teenagers don't volunteer info, I've talked to Jeff at NitroStang Racing, who use to work for ProMotion, and he still buys trannys, the Kuston clutches etc. from Walt. He recommended the G-Force internals for the kind of power we're making.

I might follow-up a call to Walt, to get more details. Did u get your Kevlar single disk clutch installed yet?
