Default Gassy smell? help me!!!

Hey, i have an 86 mustang GT, the only mod that i have done to it are Long tube headders, off road H pipe flows, and for the engine i have bought the BBK cold air intake , and new msd blaster coil and i have eliminated the smog pump and A/C but it smell gassy before i removed that. The problem im having is that when i run the car it has strong gas burning smell, like fummy smell the only thing i can think of is the spark plugs and wires they have been on the car a long time probably for years. the car was my grandmothers that why i wanted it the motor looked brand new in the car. If you guys could help me out that would be great. thannks alot.

On a car that old you may have a fuel injector leaking fuel either past a "O" ring or thru the injector body itself. Take a close look at ALL of the injectors to make sure that is not the problem.

Whenever you remove smog items, it's going to get smelly; especially at idle and even more so with a high lift and/or long duration cam!

The fact that it was smelly before you removed the smog items was probably due to the fact that they weren’t working properly to begin with!

I too removed the smog pump and cats on my ’89 (when it was less than a year old.) The first thing I noticed was the smell! I thought I had an exhaust leak somewhere. After replacing the header gaskets, collector gaskets, new mufflers and tail-pipes…. The smell is still there!

It’s the price you gotta’ pay for breaking the law!
