94 mustang gt airbag light
the airbag light is constantly on and the code it flashes at startup isnt listed as a code designating a problem by ford. Ive heard this is a common problem on mustangs. Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem or disable the light? Surprised this isnt a safety recall if its a common problem. thanks

Is it possible you dont have a code, just a steady light, and the light is flashing at startup as part of the normal system test procedure?

I have received a few private emails asking me how to reset the Air Bag light after switching steering wheels, and wanted to post it for all. The procedure is simple, and goes like this:
1) Locate the connector below the glovebox, with a Black wire and a Tan wire with a Red tracer. 2) Turn the ignition on, and watch for a Code 52 to be flashed out. 3) After it has flashed out once, connect the two wires in the connector with a jumper (a paperclip works well) for 5 seconds. 4) The Air Bag Controller will then beep 5 times. 5) The code is now cleared out of the system. This code will appear anytime the Air Bag fuse is blown or removed, or if the battery voltage falls below 8vdc. Take care, -Chris

air bag light
On the newer style mustangs like 94 and newer ford used a wound clock spring in behind the airbad itself. This spring is really thin, flat and fragile, some times these springs break and connection to airbag is lost. So it sets the light off and it will stay on till this spring is replaced. But let a tech do this procedure as the airbag can still go off. You do not want that to happen.

If you remove power from the airbag system, it should not go off accidentally. No big deal, and easy to do.

before you work on the car just unhook the battery before hand for at least an hour. The airbag system may have a capacitor for a charge to the airbar.I dont think the mustang has it i cant remember been to long since i learned about it.But it should be alright.

and pull all the fuses for the airbag system. actually, you can keep the battery connected if you just pull the fuses for the airbag system, but there could be a capaciter in front of the fuses, I dont know for sure.

The easiest way to drain a capacitor is to disconnect the battery, and turn the headlight switch on for a minute.
I still wish you would follow the steps I outlined for you. Save yourself a lot of trouble.

airbag light
Thanks to everyone who has replied to my orig post. I just checked again and still have the problem. My 94 mustang flashes a code 72 at least three times and then the light stays on permanently. If you have an idea of how to correct, id love to know. If i find out what is actually wrong ill let everyone know as this seems to be a common problem.

There is no airbag code 72. They only go to 53, and then become OBDII codes, which require a scan tool.

I'm sorry. It's been a while, and I'm getting old and forgetful.
Have you tried the procedure I listed for correcting a code 52?
