Hood pins? Some guys put those on to keep the hood down. Either they have removed the hatch or they think it makes them look fast. If that isn't what your talking about I don't know.

I would bet that your looking at hood clips. People do it (to make them look fast) when they remove the stock hook. I have never understood it, cause its not going to be any faster, just more work and more obvious. Whatever.

often times these hood pins are used on fiberglass hoods that do not have reinforcing for the stock latch system.
Or as stated above, for the appearence of fiberglass hood/speed. |

Hood pins were originally installed on race cars with fiberglass hoods that did not have traditional latch mechanisms. These pins kept the hood from flying off at high speeds. The cables were simply a way to prevent losing the clasping pins. Some people like installing them on fiberglass hoods for the look. A few may actually need them.

I was thinking of getting hood pins because the edges of my hood moves up and down at 70+mph, scares the crap out of me. I really don't want to attract an attention to the car, but it may be worth the piece of mind.

same here, on the interstate if i get up any higher than 65 or 70 the left front corner of my ram air hood starts shaking like fat man in a candy store. It has a stock safety latch but i dont want to take any chances, now does the lameness count for me also because i already know my car is slow, hehehe

Well to everyone who thinks this may look like bragging rights or something of that nature, it is in fact a safetly measure, those hoods are light, well all fiberglass are, and with the horror stories I have heard of hoods coming up and bashing the windshield, to me that is not a bad move to get some extra assurance.Just my opinion...

I agree some people do need them, no doubt about it. I will get some if I need them when I get a new hood.
Some people put them on just because they think it adds to their car's looks. Example: My ex had a camaro when I met her(6 1/2 yrs ago), she got it cheap and it was 'transportation'. It was a 84 6 banger with the stock hood! I just had to laugh |
