There was a recent article in one of the stang mags that stated the Typhoon does hang with the big dogs at a cheaper price.

I know a few people that have these, they're not much to look at unless you get the polished one and the threads strip very easily, they're very soft. Also watch for flashing inside the ports (loose pieces of aluminum that can flake off). I'd spend the extra $ and get the edelbrock, the typhoons are a bootleg and made in a sweatshop in china, your choice though.

red82gt -- I'm from Canada aswell and I'm wondering how much in cdn. did you pay for your intake?
I would have liked to run a cobra or an edlebrock but $1000 for an intake is too much. I can get a typhoon (satin) for under $600 so that is what I'll probably have to buy just for the cost factor. I finally found a explorer upper/lower but they want $500 for that and that is used. So considering cost as a factor (which narrow it down to 2 intakes) which is better the explorer or the typhoon? Thanks for any input BTW if you know of any good places to buy parts in Canada that would be appreciated, any in Alberta?

89BlackGT,
Try Best Buy in Vancouver, they sell the typhoon for $450! They also sell the TFS street intake for somewhere around $650 and I believe their Edelbrocks are around $900. They have the lowest prices, everything is typically the American price times 1.5 so it would actually be cheaper for Americans to buy from there too. Phone # (604) 430-0094 for the Vancouver store or (604) 594-6674 for the Surrey store. I've also got excellent service from Western Motorsports in Calgary, their website is at www.wmsracing.com BTW, my car is carbed so my manifold only cost me $230 at Best Buy Oh yeah, the typhoon isn't much to look at but it does perform but there's a noticeable loss of torque from the short runners, you'll need good heads and 373-410 gears to go with it. The explorer is a decent all around intake, too. Won't flow as much but you won't have to worry about stripped threads. With your present combo, the explorer would probably work better.

Good places in Alberta (as mentioned before) are Western Motorsports, and The Mustang Shop. I bought my intake through WMS as well. |

The flashing in these things can be loose, one of my friends scored a cylinder wall when a loose flake of this about 1/4" in diameter and razor thin dropped into one of the cylinders. It ended up in the valve relief of the piston. So if you buy one, inspect it thouroughly. He inspected the intake and found a couple other spots where rubbing it with a finger could dislodge a piece that was razor thin and about the size of a dime. The intake was replaced by the company but he was out for a shortblock. This is not the same as the bumpy surface left by the casting process, found in all unported manifolds. |

So... I see mixed reviews... though it seems that the functionality is there but the qualilty isnt... so I guess its a matter of what you want more then eh?

I dont live in canada but you've got a couple things that effect the prices... one thing is the exchange rate.... but I also believe they pay something like 15% sales tax... maybe more.. cause they have local and federal (or whatever they call it)

Comparatively, we make close to the same money Americans do, if you factor in the exchange rate. However, due to our liberally inclined government, we do pay a fair bit more tax. There is a 7% federal tax on goods and services, and all of the provinces have their own 7%+ taxes on top of that, except for Alberta (sitting on lots of oil, 0% provincial tax). Goods here are also priced way differently...cars are cheaper (comparatively) than in the US, and our taxes on cars and the whole ownership process for that matter are different. In the end the differences aren't that great in the welfare of citizens, but the processes, taxes, and pricing contrasts are huge.
