help me please! i can't figure this out!!!
i've got a 91GT. the only mods are a 70mm BBK TB, K&N, and flows, and no cats
my throttle likes to stick @ either 1500 or 2000 very often i could be driving up to a stop light and when i push the clutch in or just drop it into neutral, the idle goes up to 1500 or 2000 and just sits there also when i'm just driving around, if i push in the clutch, it'll idle way high, and its not an up and down idle, it sticks right at 1500 or right at 2000. and my idle is set at 700 now, it only started doing this since it got cold, and i've only had the car since july last year i cleaned out the TB w/ seafoam from o'reilly, i hand cleaned the area right around the throttle blade. i checked my TPS sensor, it said .75v, so i adjusted it up to .965v here's the worst part though, it doesn't happen all the time, its sporadic. I'll come off the highway after awhile and its a 50/50 chance that it'll idle normal or high. i've had it change between lights that were a block apart. this is driving me crazy!!! what else can i do to fix this?? .................thnx ------------------ SHaFTed |

I used to have the same problem and it about drove me crazy. People would stare at me sitting at a light like I was crazy, or they'd think I wanted to race. I was able to fix mine by replacing the TPS. Never checked the setting on the old one, just replaced it. Seems to have worked so far. It's been about a year and the only time it revs over 700 is when I first start it when its cold. Hope this helps.

The same thing happened to my car for a period of time. It would do exactly what you are talking about. It did it for a couple of days and then stopped. I disconnected my battery for awhile and the problem has never returned. Whether or not that fixed anything I don't know. But it sure is annoying isn't it?

By removing the battery you reset the computer. This is a good thing especially if you changed things around,ie TPS voltages. The computer now has to relearn what the new setting are.

I have your answer. It is definitely one of the below:
Check the voltage to your TPS Vacuum leaks Disconnect your 10-pin connecter on the back of the motor and clean it up. It shouldn't be the TPS itself. I had the same exact problem, changing the TPS did NOT help. I did all three of the above at the same time. The 10-pin was clean, but the voltage to the TPS was off and I found a vacuum leak. That was about two months ago, and like it says in my sig, the car runs like a champ!!! Haven't had the problem since. Hey shaft7. If you decide to get a new TPS, you can have one of mine. It is in good shape, had no probs with it. I'll give it to you, you just pay shipping COD, like 3 bucks or something like that. Light Em Up!!!

Why did you decide to go with a 70mm TB? Seems awfully big for a stock setup. You'd get better air velocity and make more power with a 65mm.

your problem is a vacuum leak. check the vacuum lines under the intake make sure there not dry rotted. i had the same problem. it would do it sometimes and sometimes not. it was a vacuum line going to my fuel vapor value. the line was dry rotted and had a hole it in. when the rubber line twisted it would rev the motor up to around 2000 rpm the the line would twist again and it would close the rpms came down to origal settings. try the vacuum lines. thats proably your problem. good luck
