Removing the power steering pump pulley
ANybody ever remove the powersteering pump pulley on a 92 Mustang? We broke one puller and the other puller bent the pulley. It did not even budge a bit!! I was wondering if there's a secret to removing it? Thanks for any replies!

Re: Removing the power steering pump pulley
the only thing that i did that maybe helped me out was that i soaked the shaft with penetrating oil and i used a torch to heat up the shaft. I rented the tool from Autozone, it looked pretty heavy duty and it worked like a charm. Hope you get it soon.

Re: Removing the power steering pump pulley
I tried heat too!! Nothing worked. I guess I'm going to have to cut it off. I heated the pulley and kept spraying the shaft with water, but to no avail. That sucka is on there.

Re: Removing the power steering pump pulley
If you bent the pulley, you are not using a power steering pump pulley puller. You must be using a gear puller or something. The correct puller pulls on the raised lip that's toward the center of the pulley and does not pull on the outside. Get the correct puller and it should be pretty easy.

Re: Removing the power steering pump pulley
Jimberg, I broke the correct puller. Like you said, I used the wrong puller after that and it bent. There was no going back. It had to be done!

The Sawzall is the holy grail for last resort hackage.
It is quite a pain that you have to remove the pulley to get the pump off, I had taken off many bolts for the main accessory bracket before realizing this. I had about 1 mm clearence between the pully tool and the radiator too, all in all the job sucked a@s
