Exclamation please help me im so confused

ok hopefully theres others like me out there. i recently bought a 93 ford mustang. i ran the vin number on the car and it came back that it is a mustang cobra, however i looked under the hood and the intake manifold is just a regular 5.0. so i guess im asking if there is some really obvious way to know if i have a cobra or gt

i think the only obvious differences are the intake , cam and heads.the heads would have 3 bars on them where the accesories would bolt up. look for that.

The cobras had 4 wheel disc brakes.

Should be pretty obvious.

If you look under the rear of the car and determine if you have irs or a standard 8.8" rearend. Cobras came if irs (independent rear suspension) if I am not mistaken. This is so they could compete with the Corvette in IMSA/Trans-AM racing back in the 80's and 90's.

Yep, you are mistaken.
The 93 cobra had an 8.8, matter of fact all cobras did until 1999, they went with irs.

I think, I'm trying to remember for sure. The 93 was the first year and the difference was only the rocker arms on the engine, roller rockers and a larger wing on the deck. Oh, almost forgot, more $$$ too.

The 1993 Cobra drivetrain featured

24lb/hr injectors
65mm T/B
Cobra Intake
Cobra Cam
GT-40 Iron heads
Cobra computer
70mm MAF
Roller rockers
Cobra pulleys
Cobra spec T-5

It also used the following Cobra parts amongst other items

4 wheel disc brakes
Cobra valance
Cobra grill
Cobra wing
Cobra 17" wheels
Cobra suspension

The 1993 Cobra's had a slew of enhancements to them. They weren't simply some rebadged GT with special exhaust or something.

Yep this thread was very mis-informing to say the least.

Catch code on the computer would be X3Z for Cobra.
A9L, A9P, etc for the 5.0 HO.
