Cool Have decided to go with a 9" - Any thoughts?

Well, I have decided the car will sit this winter while a new 9" from Auto Weld gets put together for it. I'm thinking of installing some 4" tubs as well so I can go with some wider meats in the back. I want to stay with the stock type suspension, or maybe even go with a coilover setup in the rear, but with the Auto Weld 9" they move the coil spring perches to the axle which may prove to be a perfect setup. It's supposed to make the control arms act more like a typical 4-link. What do you guys think?

I really like UPR Pro Series control arms so if I do stay with Auto Weld's setup I plan to use them for putting the power to the ground. I'll also be beefing up the torque boxes and adding a cage and full length sub frame connectors. Am I missing anything?

Cool

try to avoid a stock 3rd member if you can.. at least the nodular... the thing thats cool is that you can have 2 complete 3rd members for the car, one for racing one for long trips.. if you do it a few times, you can change the 3rd member out in 20 mins or so..
31 spline axles?

The axles are not decided on yet. What do you think? 31 or 40? The car will eventually be sporting a 393 stroker and maybe an S trim sometime down the road, so it's going to have to handle some torque.

I like the idea of being able to swap the gears out quickly. That's the whole reasoning behind going with a 9". Plus the fact that it's a lot stronger. The car won't see much track time but when it does I think it would be great to be able to swap out my highway gears for some 4.10's or so.

Anyone have pics of a Fox body Stang with small tubs? I'd like to see what this is going to look like.
Thanks.

Thumbs down

Sounds good but if you arent racing it often , why put a million dollar setup in it.
Ive seen 8's out of 8.8's. Maybe the 9' money could go elsewhere, but thats my opinion. What tranny do you plan on running?

He said he wants the 9" for the ability to easily change the gears.

I generally try to buy the best stuff I can for my car. I am very hard on my car on the street and a 9" would be nearly indestructable. I've already gone through a brand new set of FMS 3.73 gears and don't wish to install another set just to tear them up too.

A Tremec TKO will be next on the list. For now the T-5 is holding up and I have a spare one for backup.

It's not going to be a million dollar setup. I'll be getting a good deal on all the parts I hope. I figure between $1500-$2000 should cover everything - axles, 3rd member, gears, housing, control arms, sheet metal. As for the tubbing, a friend is going to do it when he does the rest of the aluminum work in the hatch area so that'll be pretty cheap.
