How in the world do I wire up my ignition if I have taken the computer out. Can I just use the stock ignition or can I wire up one with a switch inside?

I guess I don't understand why you remove the computer and how the car would run without it. But anyway, I ran my MSD 6AL box into the wiring harness for the distributor TFI module. I think I don't fully understand what you're doing.

Why don't you just use the stock ignition?

How do I use the stock ignition? I'm running a carb set-up. How did you wire up your coil and distributor?
Thanks, ------------------ Michael Wigton 1989 351 Windsor 1964 1/2 Convertible |

now that you've clarified that, your best bet would be to get a stock 351 dist. from a junk yard and all of the components that go with it. most of that stuff just plugs into itself. there will be at least one 12v wire you'll have to hook up. get a haynes or chilton for the vehicle you take the dist. from and check the schematic for which wire goes where, i think you'll figure it out quite easily from there.

Libraries usually have the big Chilton type manuals and you can usually photocopy right there for 25 cents or so.
A good cheap electronic (non-computer controlled, just a hot wire and a ground to the control box) ignition is the Ford Duraspark II. check out //members.boardhost.com/MustangSteve for a complete how-to. I got one at a rural junkyard for $30 and it really works well. |

That's what I was thinking about. However, Do I have to wire it into the ignition? Or just a hot wire that is hooked into the fuse box? Cause it wouldn't be a constant hot just when the you turn the key right? I have a distributor from a 85 Crown Vic police interceptor, that's a Daraspark right? So I could just go to Autozone and pick up a ignition and a coil and them find the wiring from a junk yard, right? Do I need to pick up a new starter relay? I guess If I just run a hot from the fuse box that just eliminates the need for the ignition part of the relay, right? Thanks guys for your help!!!! ------------------ Michael Wigton 1989 351 Windsor 1964 1/2 Convertible |
