Default burning oil

I've been having to add oil to my engine ever couple months or so. It's blowing smoke on the driver side so on a suggestion I pulled the valve cover to see if the oil drains were clogged which neither were. So it's sucking in oil from the tube that goes from the valve cover to the air intake tube that attaches to the intake. Some interesting things is that the PCV line doesn't have anything to attach to on my valve cover, the egr is there but disconnected, and there was a vacuum line that was not connected. Reattaching the vacuum line seemed to help it run significantly smoother. One thing that doesn't make sense to me is that the left pipe exhaust is very hot and the passenger side exhuast blows cold. Any rhyme or reason to them having completely opposite temps? Is this something I should look into. Finally working everything out of my car, sadly I won't have much of a chance to enjoy it.
