Which heads for stock motor?
O.K. My car has lots plenty exhaust and plenty intake. My car is not running as fast as it should. In fact I have posted a subject earlier on this site entitled "Why is my car slow?" And basically after a dyno shop and, not to mention everyone on here, suggested that all my parts are not at their full potential becasue of my STOCK heads, I've decided I've got to get aftermarket aluminum heads.
Heres where I need you. I am not going to do the work myself due to insufficient expertise on installations, so I need to know what to buy. What is the best pair of heads of the best buy? I'm not looking to run 9s here. This will be the last thing before a possible charger, so I must not chose poorly. When I purchase the heads, must I get any extra parts to fit it? I read on here that Trick Flows are a good buy IF I get seperate parts. Please help. Keep in mind I still have my stock cam and don't desire to change it. Thanx every1. ------------------ 94' Stang GT Convertible Cobra upper&lower, Mac cold air w/K&N, Full exhaust, 3.55, etc. 14.4@100. |

I'm planning on heads and roller rockers for this summer. Afther doing a lot of research I've decided on the Trick flow. On a recent dyno test done by 5.0 Mustang mag they made about the same HP as the AFR 165 (2hp diffenace)and they cost 400$ less than the AFRs, you can buy something else with the extra money.
However the AFRs are really good heads, if the extra 400$ isn't an issue then I would buy the AFRs. Well thats my 2 cents, hope this helps. |

I would recomend World Windsor Jr's i had a pair on my last motor i liked them a lot i just upgraded to the windsor sr. aluminums for my 408 stroker. the jr's have good flow and i think they had a 1.94 cc cumbustion chamber, i found they are a well made head well just my 2 cents good luck in your decision!

AFR's are great heads but WAAAAAYYY overpriced. You can get the TFS TW's for about $1000 that perform as good as the 165's dor 200-300$$ cheaper. The Windsors are ok, they are in the same ball park as the GT-40's. IMO...TFS, but if you are gonna spend the money on the AFR's, save a little more and get the 185's. Those rock.
I also went 12.7@110 with just TFS heads, GT-40 Intake and a E cam....it was also 55* outside though, and my box stock TFS heads put 308 rwhp out with the TFS Intake. ------------------ Dustin Saleenized 89 GT,428 rwhp,TFS Street Heat Intake,TFS TW Heads,TFS #2 cam,BD-11A 9 psi,FRPP 1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,Pro-M 75mm Bullet,MSD 6BTM, FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes,BBK Short H-pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55's 12.3@119 [This message has been edited by SaleenGTS (edited 06-18-2001).] |

Do I have to buy seperate parts for TFS heads to fit on my motor? Do they just go right on without additional parts? Reason I ask is I read a seperate post on here concerning the same thing and there were replies stating that trick flows are a better buy than edelbrocks but you need, I think rods(?) or else they won't fit or something will break or something stating that the stock parts conflict with the trick flow heads. I can't remember the details or what the title of the post was, but it was something to that nature. Thanx again everyone.

Yes, you will need longer pushrods. I used 6.75", but you will need to call TFS and make sure. You should also check P2V clearance too.

If you plan on adding a supercharger then go with the AFR 185, if you are not going to supercharge it then get the trick flow. The 185 cc intake ports on the AFR 185 will slow your port velocity and you will not get as much power as you could with a smaller intake volume.
I would say the trick flow for your app. ------------------ James Cox nochevy@hotmail.com 1991 Mustang LX 12.565 @109.38mph 1.764 60ft |

Does anyone here have any experience with Edelbrock aluminum heads? One of my racing buddies was saying that he has put them on Chevy's before and that they flow really well out of the box and would be good for a mild combination without any port work.

Then again, for what you'd spend hogging them out, you could pick up some much better aluminum heads. My advise would be the TFS TW. They are a very good head, and they are probably the least expensive aluminum head on the market. |
