Default waterpump

the new waterpump could be bad and also did you make sure all of the air is out of the engine when you filled it up with antifreeze also check and see what the antifreeze mixture is set at, it should be at -34 to -30 at least. did you do a 50/50 water/antifreeze mix?

Default Fan clutch?

You didn't mention your fan clutch and that is a big one. The fan plays a very important role in pulling your air in.
Also, vapor lock might be worth investigating. You can check by putting a water neck with a release plug at the thermostat. Also, check that your thermostat is installed correctly. Good luck.

Default Hissing...

By the way, that hissing is coming from the water in your system that is BOILING into your expansion tank and escaping as superheated vapor. That is not good. I would not drive it until you fixed your problem. Good luck, check the fan clutch first.

I had a Fiero that did that once.

The coolant was boiling so fiercely you could hear it in the house, and the heat deformed the recovery bottle.

Ironically, the engine was fine. It would run on terrible gas, two quarts low on oil, and 300* temps...but only made 90hp.

the gaskets could be blocking a coolant passage.
is the thermostat good?

Run some antifreeze in there. I believe using straight water can cause steam pockets to form in the heads. That, and a 50/50 mix boils a lot higher than just water.

Default Coolant...

That is true about coolant that it increases the boiling point of your solution. Good luck...

Default no anitfreeze!!

no wonder why it over heats. i tried to be cheap when i was alot younger (age 16) and run straight water no antifreeze. i found out after replacing the warped head and exploded radiator that antifreeze wasnt so expensive after all in fact it is alot cheaper than a new head and radiator plus labor costs. good luck on the 100% water mix.

i ussually run straight water in my other car with no problems cause the track by me doesnt let you run antifreeze in your car and the guys at downs ford just suggested a blown head gasket and for me to drain my oil but i dont see that being the problem

302. did the overheating problem happen after you put the new pump in? if it did, make sure you didnt get the wrong water pump from the parts store. v-belt water pumps run clockwise as for the mustangs, i think they run counter-clockwise, meaning it isnt pumping. it is not that common to happen, but it does. that is the only thing i can thing of.

302. i have seen people put the thermostat in backwards on 302's before. did you point the thermostat towards the radiator? remember, i dont know how much you know, so dont take it as an insult if you already know.

Question

hey guys. I'm the owner of this mustang. It's not so much the overheating problem as it is the disappearing of the water. Once we fill up the radiator and beat the car up a bit the water in the radiator is missing. Ive been told that i could possible be a blown head gasket or intake gasket that is blocking the passages. I just drained the oil, now there seems to be no traces of water in there so now I am flustered... please reply with some input. Thanks
