Post help T-5 experts? shifter a bad choice??

Ok, actually the hurst shifts good, but my tranny has been whining for a while now, well the hurst doesnt have all the rubber in it, like the stocker, therfore im getting a nasty noise, "drive noise" and i was told from my friend, it is synchros? it whines only 1st-3rd, i guess a rebuild is gonna be needed, about how much should this cost?

It only whines when im giving it gas?? someone help im gonna have to put the stock shifter in now cuz i cant take the noise, and i already cut the rubber boot. Man im stressed...what should i do?

Is it gear whine you hear? I got my GT with 3k miles on it. Ever since I had it, I get a gear whine, but only in 3rd. I haven't had to service the tranny at all.

I appreciate the reply, but im afraid its more than gear noise, i have heard 5.0's with no noise, and this is pretty bad, some people think i have a blower, i still dont know what to think, im gonna try to put all the rubber on the hurst, off the stock, and see if i can get some of that noise down, but its like i hear something slowing down with the motor when i stop too, like the throwout bearing? but its worse with the short throw, it may be really worn, it is used. If anyone else knows what i can do, or how much a rebuild would be...post plz

If it whines and sounds like a supercharger on acceleration and deceleration, I will bet it is the imput shaft getting ready to let go. Although you may get away with it for a while it will fail. As for parts to do the rebuild correctly, new imput shaft, contershaft, 2nd and 3rd gears, and the rebuild kit will run $550. I could rebuild it but the shipping would probably kill you from TX to PA. I would call D&D or Hanlon for the parts, either should have them in stock. The aftermarket shifter will increase the road noice heard through the shifter because it is a soild nice piece not the flimsy poor excuse for a shifter that the stock one is. If it were the syncros it should grind or pop in or out of gear or sometimes not want to go into gear, 2nd gear has trangle shaped ares to allow the gears to slide in, it is famous for getting flat when power shifting. The reaseon you only here it in 1st-3rd is 4th gear is a direct drive and has a lot of load on the tranny so it is there but is harder to hear it.

No, it only whines on acceleration, and 5th gr is starting to sound worse, i'll call d&d and ask what im going to need, i dont want to spend 500 $$ on parts, but i may replace throwout bearing, and input, hopefully wont spend over 300$, thanx for the help, but if its only on acceleration, then that means its the inputshaft right?

I too was just going to replace the imput shaft but after a long conversation with Don Jr, he convinced me to replace the countershaft as well. That way you have new meshing new, not a new imput shaft running against a old countershaft, I too realize it was a lot of money but Don Jr said I could go ahead and replace the shaft alone but it most likely won't last and I would be buying another one plus the countershaft in no time. Now 4 years ago I did just replace the imput shaft as my countershaft appeared fine, but with all the new parts mine has now it shifts better then ever nice smooth and strong. Time to bite the bullet and replace it all, I replaced 2nd and 3rd while I was at it because now I have all new gears meshing, and 3rd gear was flat, damn powershifts It will be money well spent, let me know what Don Jr has to say.
