are my 30#ers too big for my set up?
i was talking to a kid who knows about mustangs after building and owning 2. he drove my car and said that it felt strong, however when i told him it had 30# injectors, he said i should switch them to 24#'s. what do you think? he thinks i can add 20-30 horses from doing so but i would have to change my MAF calibration. does this sound right? if i do that, how much can i expect to spend in labor and parts if a shop did it? thanks
jim PS i was also told that a burnt chip could help about 20-30 HP or so. is this true? i thought you could do the same with timing and fuel pressure. thanks jim

Dry or wet nitrous kit? 24's are definitely more suitable for a wet setup with your combo. You sometimes can't detune all of the extra fuel through pressure...may require an injector swap. You're probably facing $250+ depending on mass air and injector pricing...

There was a guy out at my track that had a 408 with a 150 shot on it. Went 9.90 and only had 24#'rs on it. It might help you to switch, but with a 112 trap speed, sounds like it is doing just fine now.

i have a dry system (sprays in TB). i have my Dr's on now and the lower rpm's seem a little sluggish compared to when it gets to the upper rpm's where it really pulls. could this be an effect of the 30#ers?
however i just raced a yellow kawasaki(?) motorcycle with my nitrous and did pretty well. he of course won, but i was there with him all the way, took the lead at the beginning though!

Leave it alone.
Your car is running fine. When someone starts to claim, you will gain 20-30 horsepower here and there...just trust your insincts. If you think, you car is running out of tune, then take it to a Chassis dyno and retune the car with what you have. Aim for the over all AVERAGE in third gear. Good Luck |

Should be fine then with a dry kit...you'll need the fuel when the spray is on. Better to be rich and fouling plugs than lean and burning pistons.

Your injector size is fine. What is your base timing & fuel pressure?
Changing injectors does necessitate an MAF recalibration if a chip is not used. Changing the fuel & timing maps on a chip it totally different than pumping up the fuel pressure and setting a global timing advance. However if you are just deviating from the stock settings a few psi & degrees then you own all the tools you need. Jimmy |

hawaiin five oh- based on responses it looks like i am going to keep them. thanks for the offer- if it was an overwhelming response, then i would have definately swapped with you without hesitation.
timing is around 12-14 i believe. fuel pressure is at 38. i guess it is running ok seeing as how i spanked an 04 vettelast night!! details in drag racing forum!

Bump the timing to 14-16 even try 18. (all stock balancers vary just a hair from car to car.) And drop the fuel pressure to 36 with out a vacuum signal at the fuel pressure regulator. See if that makes it any better. ( I assume you're running at least 93 octane unleaded fuel).

You are SUPPOSED to retard your timing when the nitrious is on.
Generally you pull out 2 degrees of timing for every 50 h.p level of increment. Example: 150 shot... You would pull out 6 degrees of what the engine runs best on motor alone. Some people will even take an addtional 2 degrees out for a safe measure and work their way back, by checking their plugs on every run. Other wise you risk the danger of hurting your engine, due to a "BAD TUNE". Generally people tune thier engines for the best that they think that they can get out of it, then they start to play with the nitrious for addtional power. Depending on your location is super unleaded...91 or 93 octane? |
