Default Question about stock crank.

Did a 28oz crank ever come in a H.O. motor? If not what did the come out of. Casting # e7ae-aa.

No. ALL H.O. motors were 50oz Ford switched balancing weights in the early 80's, 50oz was cheaper to do. Your casting number is from an '87 crank, so it's gonna be a 50oz job.

As far as the 28oz goes, all 351windsors were 28oz, and the early 302's were as well. There's some speculation out there as to when exactly the change occured, some say 1980, some say 1981. The things I know for sure, ALL 351w are 28oz, and all 5.0 (302 H.O.) were 50oz.

Thats what I thought too, but this crank is stamped 28oz and dosn't have the big rotating mass. Could a roller motor out of a truck have a 28oz crank?

Sure can! Especially if you got a crank from the 351 HO. They put those in trucks, and I've even seen a Bronco or 2 running around with that engine. Here's your casting number break down:
E 1980's decade
7 1987
a Post 1958 Engineering
e Engine Department
a Truck Division
a First run design change

What about YYY stamped in the lifter valley of the block? Also its drilled and tapped for the spider web.

Sounds like the 351HO. What's the stroke/bore? Educated guess, tape measure will be close enough. The 302's had a 3" stroke (1.5" crank throw), 4" bore. 351W had 3.5" stroke (1.75" crank throw), 4" bore. Another easy way to tell the difference is to look at the front of the block. Right behind the ditzy, the 351W has about a 1" web standing straight up, from the block to the bottom of the intake. Whereas the 302 was relatively flush. Also look at the timing cover bolts, near where the head gasket is. The bolts on the 302 are REALLY close to the head gasket, and again the 351W has some distance there, because of the taller deck. If it's a 351HO, you should have a 9.5" deck height, measure from the centerline of the crank, to the deck (where the head gasket is) Sounds to me like you found a diamond in the rough bro, got yourself a 351HO. Let us know!
