head change ?
Hey guys, i have read a few articles and done a little research, but i seem to have hit a road block on info. I know that heads off of a 351 can be used on a 302 to improve performance, but can they be used with fuel injection? This is for a 91 5.0 and i can't seem to get anyone to give me any positive yes or no's. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks Aaron |

Re: head change ?
Yes they will work fine with fuel injection and you will need bushings for the 302 head bolts or stepped head bolts cause 351 heads have I believe 1/2 inch bolt holes.

Re: head change ?
I wasn't aware of a EFI intake for that swap. Im sure an Accell unit or some other aftermarket EFI that sits on a 4V intake would work great.
We ported some stock E7's (90 model 302) and made some crazy numbers with a cam and 24lb'ers. That was also with a ported stock lower with a comp cams polymer upper. Seems like it made 290 at the crank. We spent $350 in parts. Roller rockers gave us the biggest jump in HP. It went up almost 15HP with just the rockers. I like to keep a motor a basic as I can. Id say if you want to go up to 351 heads, get the 351 block too. Atleast that way you don't have to worry much about what fits what. Its your money do what makes you happy! EDIT: Got Clevland heads on my mind form another post. They need a special intake.

Re: head change ?
man you can use any 302 intake you want, 351 heads are similair to the iron gt-40, same valve 1.84/1.?? but they are stud mount rocker's i believe, look how the earlier lightnings use the same head i run, which is the 93-95cobra/pre mid 97 explorer head, responded well to porting, if you can get a 3 angle job, and some upgraded springs you'll see some power, and yea the head bolt comment is correct, but thats no big deal.

Re: head change ?
CANFIELD! Anyways, that swap should work just fine. You'll need ARP head bolts #154-3605 for them though. The block has 7/16" head bolts, and the 351w heads have 1/2" holes. That bolt kit has litte "top hats" that slide on the bolt, and into the head bolt holes.
As far as intakes go, can't help much there unless you throw a carb on that thing, then I can help! LOL We had a set of ported E6 yes, E6! That made crazy power too! Didn't even use the better E7's and it was still rather impressive. Explorer (GT-40) and Lightning heads are a great junkyard find, so is the Lightning intake. At least that's what I'm told, I looked at one, couldn't find the carb, so I left it in the junkyard. LOL

Re: head change ?
If the heads are from a 1977 or newer 351W, don't bother. They have the same valve size and same ports as the E7TE's.

Re: head change ?
As for a good aftermarket EFI intake...the Edelbrock Performer RPM-2 is a great choice. Makes power from 1500rpms up to 7500rpms. If this is for a pretty mild set up than the Edel. Performer intake would be better. That intake makes it's power from idle up to 5500rpms. I'm selling my Performer EFI intake for $300 + shipping if you want it.

Re: head change ?
D0OE heads have 1.84 and 1.54 valves, for the record.
Jester, what were the flow numbers of those ported E6's? Or did you even test them? I have two sets of them and I have been thinking about porting the shyt out of them just to see what I could do. Does anyone know what size the combustion chamber on E6's is?

Re: head change ?
We never had them flowed bro, but boy did the car pick up! Back then it was a stock roller 5.0, Edelbrock Performer (I think, dual plane intake anyways) 650 Holley, B303 cam. Ran 13.99 all day long. Doesn't sound like much, but for what we had in it, it was impressive.
