Default question about slicks....which size?

I'm about ready to order a set of MT slicks. I'm going to mount them on a set of 10 hole rims.
I leaning towards 26x9x15. Would it make much difference to get the 26x10x15 since the rims are only 7in. wide?
I don't think I will get the full foot print with the 10in wide slicks on a 7inch rim.
Should I just stick with the 9 inch slicks?

You do not get the full footprint of the 10.5 slick on 10 holes. I have ran 10.5 X15 X26 ET streets on 10 holes for years.

I have went down to an 8 inch slick and they hook just as well.

I would go with the 26X9's if it were me.

I've got 28x11.5 ET streets on turbines......they wear in the center more.

But 28x11.5 ET streets are only like 8.6" wide so it's not that bad.

Its easier to run a wider tire in a 28 inch than a 26 inch. 11.5's on a 7 inch rim is a stretch either way though

I'm just going to go with the 26x9x15 slicks. There is no sense going any wider than that if I can't take full advantage of the extra foot print if it's going to be on a 7inch rim anyways.

They're 28x11.5 ET Streets

So the actual tread width is only 8.6 inches

The miminum suggested rim is 7.6" so I'm only stretching them .6 inches

My 10.5 ET streets rub the fender wells on hard launches, I dont know how you managed to fit the 11.5's with stock rims/backspacing.

Are you running longer wheel studs with spacers?

28x11.5 ET streets are only 0.3 inches wider than 26x10.5 ET streets.

I haven't run them yet with the stock rims, nor even put them on. However I ran them on a set of 15x8 5.5" bs drag-lites for a while. Stock fender lips, they just rubbed when I turned.

Come to think of it I'm a bit worried about them fitting now on the stock rims. What's hte back-spacing on the stock rims?

I didnt want to come right out and say it but they dont safely fit and if you bolt them on with stock rims they will rub.

The 11.5's sometimes rub with 15X 8 5.5 BS. My brother in law had to beat up his exhaust and roll the fender lip.

My car was find with the 5.5" BS drag-lites with no exhaust beating or rolling of the fender lips. You just couldn't go around corners fast, which wasn't a problem anyway due to the front tires being P165's and having no front sway bar.

I'm gonna mount up the rims later on this week when it quite pouring down rain and see how they fit. Maybe I won't have to do too much work to get them to fit correctly, I need to roll the fender lip anyway. Dark, did your's rub the inner part of the fender or the fender lip?

They rubbed the inner part of the fender. You couldnt feel it or hear it but when I would pull my slicks off you could see where they were rubbing on the launch and the inside corner of the tire was a little torn up.

This is why god has blessed us with the BFH

Let us all bow our heads and give thanks for this gift.

I had to roll my fender lip to fit a 26X10 ET drag on a set of 10 holes. With my car being dropped, they took up almost all the available space in the wheelwell.

A 26x10 ET drag is much wider than my 11.5 ET street. If you can fit ET drags on there with the stock rims then I'm not worried at all.

Just stating my experience... And yes, the ET streets that are the "same size" as the ET drags are not near as wide. The 26x10 drag makes the 26x10.5 ET street look small.

agreed, a 26x10.5 ET street is roughly the same size as a 26x8 ET Drag

I fit 28x10.5x15 ET drags on my 92 on 8" convo pro wheels. That was the biggest that could be fit in the fender and I had to have the fender rolled. My car was stock ride height with stock upper and lower arms. I didn't even have to remove the quad shocks.

I borrowed a set of 26X 10 ET drags one time at the track that were mounted on 10 holes and they didnt rub but that was with my old 88GT vert.
