Alot of people goes crazy over Centerforce, another excellent choice and if I wanted to spend more than it cost for my King Cobra (which is awesome for my stock mustang) would be Clutchmaster, they are great. And moderately priced $140 for stock grade and $320 for better than a King Cobra up to $600. I don't have experience with these, but my local race shop MPE Racing in Taunton, MA swears by them. Gripping power per model ranges form stock to 400% over stock! www.clutchmasters.com

I have the king cobra, i had all problems trying to install it myself, (gravel driveway, and rain) but i finally got an impact tool and knocked it out.......... it hooked well at the track last week, and i love the easier pedal, last clutch i had required alot of pedal effort (hd motsprt ) and im launching on e.t.m/t's at 4500+ stock motor.
i hear good things about SPEC clutches.
later....

King cobra has a little less pedal pressure, and more holding power. It has held up to my 175-juice.

Centerforce dual friction has my vote. It handles my mild 306 & 150 shot of nitrous on slicks just fine. Easy pedal pushing & depending on how often (& far) you drive your stang...it should give you years of great performance.

I agree with Simi. The Centerforce DF is a great unit which will give you years of good service and will hold nicely under boost or the juice. Doing the job right now will servce you well moving forward. Don't forget to do a rear main seal and steel bearing retainer while you are in there. Try Summit for the DF kit. Should go for around $300./

I currently am on my second hd motorsport clutch, which is the same as the king cobra, but with more pedal effort. If you don't have a strong left leg, by the time you get out of your car, your leg will be shaking it is so stiff. That clutch is good, but I am a little bored of it. It won't hook up as good and chirp second without good gears, I have the 2.73 gears.

I am going to front the extra $$$ next time for the centerforce.

BTW, don't bother with any of that unless you get an aluminum quadrant with adjustable clutch cable also. Would suggest the steeda firewall adjuster-can use stock cable with it and just an alum. quad.

Spec Stage I or II. I just put a stage II in my car and the pedal feel is about a thousand times better than the CF I had in there before, and it's cheaper and comes with everything you need (t/o bearing, alignment tool, clutch disc and pressure plate). The CF only comes with the disc and pp, they want you to spend another $20 for their t/o bearing.

An adj. clutch cable and quadrant... and a firewall adjuster, are all really good items that need to be installed, IMO, to get the most out of your new clutch... not absolutely necessary, but a darn good idea!

The Spec unit sounds good to me, I have heard alot of good things about them... never tried one though. I ran the D/F setup on my old combo that went 11.70's on slicks and it held-up great!

And the steel bearing retainer just makes life so much easier... good thing to address while the tranny is out

Just reitterating what everyone has already said to stress the importance of taking care of all the weak-links found in the mustangs factory clutch setup.... if the money is there, I'd take care of all these things.

Is it the centerforce dual friction clutch that I've seen in other posts, that has the weights that keep getting out of balance? Some people have had to tear out the tranny a couple of times, 'til they got a good unit that was balanced. Is this the model?

Honestly, if you want a good clutch for the price, go to autozone and get a cumberland clutch, when I running a 5-speed I blew three HD T-5's with that clutch and sold it with my fourth T-5, and that same clutch is still going strong in a convertible GT, but of course it's your car, that's just my input

Lightbulb clutch ?

Best thing to do is rescearch. You must make your own decision
go to local tracks near your area. Ask questions like power out put, gears, traction devices. clutch pedal effort . Don't kown much
about spec ? But can say go with proven performer/centerforce d-f
they been doing it since 60- or-70's must be doing something right .Be sure to use aftermarket clutch quad. steeda seems
to be best quality. make sure to resurface flywheel inspect pilot bearing for excess wear/replace if possible, use locktite also.
other good advise stay away from local parts store junk!
bearing retainer excellent choice. better yet tremec 3550's
are real cheap.rear seal good time to change with all dissassembled! good luck?

My vote goes to the SPEC stage I or II. A very good transmission builder by the name of Bob Hanlon who i talk to quite a bit once told me that a Centerforce is the killer of all stock T-5 trannys. Especially ones with a little power in front of them. If your T-5 is built it will be ok but those little weights shock the tranny when you power shift.

Well id like to thank everyone for the input and I broke it down to about two clutch's the centerforce 2 and SPec 2 , I'd love to go dual friction but cant really afford the tranny rebuild and the DF.

This is what I think i'm gonna invest in,

Steed quadrant and adjuster:$80
Rear Main seal and steel bearing retainer $60
Centerforce Dual Friction $289

Now I'm not sure if centerforce's kit includes the pressure plate and throw out bearing anyone familiar with there clutches?

Maybe not, but the weights did wear an uneven pattern, off center of the splines of the pressure plate on my CF DF I pulled this spring. The Spec is a much better value than the Centerforce. BTW the Spec I is comparable to the Centerforce, the Spec II is a step up. The Spec I kit is like $179 with the t/o bearing, clutch disc, pressure plate and the alignment tool.

Do any local shops carry SPEC clutches? How is the stage 1 compared to the ford hd/kng cobra as far as holding strength?
Also, anyone know how much fluid a T-5 holds, I'm puting a clutch in tomorrow and I want to change/fill the fluid.
