aeromotive fuel pump and cranking power ?
We just completed installing an aeromotive eliminator fuel system on our 88GT to support the performance upgrades. Has anyone had any issues with their battery providing enough cranking amps to start the motor and enough juice to drive the fuel pump?

Re: aeromotive fuel pump and cranking power ?
We found yesterday it's not the aeromotive, we turned off the fuel pump from the inertia switch and the car doesn't crank over fast enough.
Everything was fine prior to the following work a few months ago - aeromotive eliminator fuel system install, Vortec T-Trim, Tremec TKO with upgraded guts, Stage 3 clutch. Trans in nuetral drive shaft spins freely, clutch pedal in, drive shaft spins freely, removed the T-trim drive belt, no real change in the cranking. |

What have you checked this far? Is this with a freshly charged battery?

Re: aeromotive fuel pump and cranking power ?
The battery is freshly charged, we even put a new battery in and jumped it with an F250 truck with dual batteries.
This problem may be in the ignition, as my son pulled the plug off the MSD distributor and it cranked fine, put the plug back in and it struggles to crank. During the supercharger upgrade, we did add an MSD 6ALD box. |

Re: aeromotive fuel pump and cranking power ?
Maybe misalignment between trans and flywheel binding the driveline? With new clutch did you install a new flywheel? Could be too tight between the flywheel and starter. Also, be 100% sure of your timing. I've seen it before on balancers with four sets of timing marks where the wrong set was used and the car cranked/fired very hard. At the time, it looked like a battery/starter/flywheel issue but it really came down to the car trying to fire at the very beginning of the compression stroke. Cylinder pressure was fighting the starter.

Re: aeromotive fuel pump and cranking power ?
Before I read Jeff's post, I was thinking timing as well. Check that, make sure the timing marks, and the timing itself, is where it should be.
Also, like Jeff said, if the pressure plate wasn't tightened correctly, it'll do that to ya. Basically what happens is you have the clutch disc "out of round" (centerline NOT perpendicular to the crankshaft) and it's grabbing ahold of the pressure plate. It's something simple, don't get freaked out. You'll find it!!!!
