408 was runnin better
So I got the timing much more dialed in, not perfect, but was getting there. Pulled out, shifted into 2nd to purposly put a load on the engine to listen for pinging. Ran her up fairly slowly to 4,000 rpm and BOOM!!! Then there was quite a bit of noises after that.
The nice edelbrock water pump broke almost perfectly thru the shaft just into the water pump. Then the fan flew into the nice HOWE aluminum radiator. The only good news is that nothing is leaking fluid, but the car is waiting for the tow truck to bring it back to my house. So now, has anyone had this happen before. After all the beatings I have given vehicles in my life, I have never broke a pump, let alone like this one. I will post pics as soon as it gets back on the tow truck. Ryan

Re: 408 was runnin better
Has the auto tensioner, but the belt did not feel overly tight.

Re: 408 was runnin better
That is ******* weird, dude. How old was the pump? Had the belt ever been too tight, even if it wasn't at that time? Maybe the fan wasn't mounted perfectly straight and got out of balance? At 4000 rpm that would create some pretty high torsional stress.
That sucks, though. Kind of an expensive little deal..... |

Re: 408 was runnin better
Well, the motor only has a few thousand miles on it and I would say the pump looked pretty new. I can say the fan was mounted right, cause I had already looked at it when I was working on the car. The only reason I had looked at it, was because I noticed after all this engine work, they still had a clutch fan on it. I hate clutch fans and apparently the fan realized I hated it and had to have the last word.
