T-5 Dead Change to 4cyl Tranny??
Well it was not a good fathers day for me. I desided to race a Audi A4 on the highway. We were playing back and forth and then he hit it. I went from 4th to 3rd and punched it when I shifted from 3rd @ 6200rpm I punched it. I started to catch this guy I was going about 140-143mph @5000rpm (I'm still running 2.73 haven't had a chance to put the 3.55 in) Anyways I'm about to come up on this guy now at about 152-155 6000rpm 4th gear I felt something let go and vibrate through the shifter. I floated over to the off ramp and stop at the light I couldn't get in first until I pushed like heck. The clutch disengages fine. When I'm rolling I can't get it in fist until I come to a stop reverse is hard as well, even after going into 3rd. I can hear the gears all moving through my shifter. So I'm pretty sure the syncros are are destroyed. I can get a 4cyl. tranny for $100cdn=$70usd I have heard of guys going to these. I remember some issues with the input shaft and pilot bearing. Does anyone know what mods I have to do to get this puppy in there? I would get my T-5 repaired but not for $700cdn=$520usd. Also my speedo gear is that different? Also I heard that the 4cyl tranny is a lower ratio I have 3.55 gears now how will this affect driveability?
Thanks for your help

while the 4 cyl T5 can be used, a vitual straight bolt in, it is even more delicate than the V8 T5. best to find a V8 tranny or rebuild yours. just out of curiosity, would happen to know how much shipping is for the 4 cyl T5 to the us? my zip code is 22835. i want a T5 for my falcon. it has the 6 cyl and the 4 cyl T5 is perfect for it.

I want to get my V8 T-5 rebuilt but don't have the cash. I need something just for now. I know there is an issue with the input shaft and pilot bearing you have to take the pilot out and replace it with a steel bushing. .............Does anyone know the dimentions of the steel bushing or a part number?
Thanks

The input shaft of the 4 cyl cars is .59" and the inpout shaft length is longer too - see chart below....................

You gotta do what you gotta do, but buying a 4 cylinder T-5 for your car, even as a crutch, is throwing money away. IMO.
Good luck. Take care, ~Chris
