I say with "Z" rated (aka summer tires only) and that width.

YOUR SCREWED!

I have driven in snow with Z rated tires and it was a VERY VERY slow drive. If there is any packed snow on the road where your tire cannot contact the road. You are in even BIGGER trouble! Based on my experiences!

Go to a junkyard and nab some cheap 14 or 15 inch rims and mount thinner tires on them. Wider tires have to plow through the snow and traction is compromised. Take it slow and you'll be fine.

Okay first off why are you going to bridgeport, Conn. It is the biggest trash hole in this country, someone got shot there 32 times for a bag of cans to recycle. I have a shirt that says welcome to Bridgeport, and has a smily face guy with a bullet hole in his head and blood dripping down. That place is bad news. Second why couldn't you just rent a car, I have heard that you can rent from one state and drop off the car to the same company in another state. I would seriously look into this. Number two, if you are storing your car, make sure no one can see it, that city is the prince of crime and your car will not last a week, if anyone has seen it. Good luck and be very careful, forget about the drive being dangerous and get a gun for the city your going too, trust me. I was there for a couple of days and got sick of stepping on the crack pipes, not being able to look at anyone in the eyes for fear of agression. I can't tell you enough, be careful....

Damm, now what, your scareing me now. I am acutually staying in trumbull, but I know bridgeport is next door to it. Renting a car is to expencive to drop it of. Price goes around $350 and up. I am leaving now Sunday morning around 9am so I should be there around Monday. Come on, I live in Miami, and you know How Miami is. I never had a problem here because I dont show off the car and I always look to make sure no one follows me home. I will live in a gated secure place with security. I know that Might not help but its better than nothing. It cant be that bad up there unless I go to the bad area's.
Rental??? Awhhh man, Now you guys are making me think. I really wanted to drive my car in sunny clear days there.

How long is this trip going to be? Usually you can rent something like an Escort or so for about $25 a day, $35 with mega insurance. That's with unlimited mileage, drive it there, drive it back. If you are gone for a week, that's only $150. You stay safe, so does the stang, and god damn it, your company should be paying for it anyway, the jackasses!

I would be scared to death to drive a Stang on a long trip if I expected to run into a bunch of snow, even with snow tires. I had to put 360lbs of sand in my hatch just to even make an attempt at getting traction with my Dunlops. It helped a little, but it was still a real experience when I'd run into 3" of snow on the road. If you absolutely must drive the Stang be very careful, and put the sand bags in at the first sign of snow. And remember not to let the car lose its momentum when you are moving through the deeper stuff, otherwise you'll be done.

Well, first of all I cant rent because I'm staying up there for 1/2 year. Anyways, the storm is ending and the It hasent been snowing in Highway 95 all the way until New York City. They will get some snow today but by the looks of how things are going with the weather, It might not be much. I will be staying in Conneticut. My plans are to leave Sunday Morning around 9am. By that time I will have a nice drive up to North carolina where I am staying overnight. Then Monday I will keep going north to CT. They are expecting this evening from Deleware to Boston about 3-6in of snow. I dont think it will happen that much but if it does, by the time I get there on Monday the roads especially on 95 should be clear. Thanks to all of you for your concerns about this trip. I think a Mustang will do fine in Winter but not in snow. There can be feet of snow on the side of the roads but as long as the roads are clear and dry I dont think there would be a problem. Dont worry, I will only drive the car on Weekends if its dry and sunny. Thanks again. I will let you all know how the trip went. Wish me luck. But the weather looks like it will be fine on Monday.

What the he!! are you so worried about!!!! I live in CT, I drive the 89 in my sig everyday rain, snow or shine with no problems, with tires so bald they are dangerous. Yes, It is stupid to have bald tires around here, but the point is I make it everywhere I want to go, with no hesitations or problems. Learn how to drive and it is fun. Its going to snow tonight, and I can't wait!!!!

Oh, driving in the snow and ice isn't a problem with the Stang, it's learning to drive in the snow and ice that's dangerous.

I live here in MN, I drive my '87Gt all winter, no problems, I've done it with baldy's, damn scary though.

Learning to anticipate it's desire to go towards the ditch, and to lose your worry about going sideways down the freeway at 40mph takes some learning though.

Hey green92lx, stop with negative stuff about bridgeport. It aint that bad unless we show of in front of those wanna be gansters. I live in Miami, And Its worsr here to have a Mustang. Anyways, I will be staying in Trumbull in a 24 hour security. My car will be covered everday, with alarm, kill switches, wire of dist. Whatever.. The thing is that I'm very carefull where I take my car and who I show it to. Maybe all those things I have wont do any good but If they really want it, then they will tow it. I always had faith in everthing. Mustangs are not being stolen like in the early to mid 90's. I have spoken to people from bridgeport and trumbull and it's not that bad there. It might s--k but it just like any other place. Iv'e heard that there are lots of mustangs there. I will leave Monday

So you've done some of that training too Unit? Most of the sideways toward the ditch stuff is a non-event for me too. I just figured I got a snow-bird for a mustang.

Damn your tires came with a W rating. Guess they intended them for ultra hi-speed apps. If it's got an M+S rating then it can handle the wet and white. Still though due to the light @ssed nature of the car its a pain to drive. Take it slow and you should be okay.

Z or ZR rated tires are the WORST in snow! I have been working at Firestone for about a year now. They gave me some 215/60/16 Blizzak's and ever since then the car does VERY well in snow and snow storms. I recommend even some used Blizzaks like what I have. Do not go on the trip with those Z rated tires! Good Luck!

Well good news, the storm is over and the roads are being cleared. Iv'e heard that they are getting in better shape. I will Leave Miami at 5am and I will be in conneticut on tuesday morning. I will let you guys know how well I did. For now I gotta put this computer away because its going up with me. And thanks for all of you for your concerns and suggestions.
