Question 89 T-Bird SC question.....

Quick question for anybody who can answer this. I know its not a Mustang, but a buddy of mine has a 89' T-Bird SC and we were wondering if he has the same 8.8 rear-end that we have, and if so will our gears work in his SC? He wants to start modifying the car, and I told him to get a set of gears to start with. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanx
Chris

They do have an 8.8, but is an independent rear set up. The same gears still apply.

Great, thanks a lot exgmguy. I'll let him know. Maybe we can get that big boat moving some more.

Cool

Guess I should have asked if he also has the 2.73 in there. Didn't even think about that till now. Anybody know, or know of a way to find out?

There should be a tag on the diff cover bolt that says something like 2L73.

Or this trick works great. Jack the car up and count how many times the tires spin per one driveshaft revolution.

tires turn approx. 2 3/4 times, it is a 2.73.

You may also have a 3.08, or a 3.27. I am not sure what gears came in those cars.

Guess we'll have to get it up in the air and spin the tires. Was hoping he had 2.73's so we could get them changed out to help him out some. Might have to do something else instead. Thanx for all the replies.
