Post LONGTUBES!!

I am buying longtubes soon and I want to know which brand is easier to install BBK, or Mac? I heard that you have to elongate your O2 sensors with the mac ones but not with the BBK is this true? And do you HAVE to remove the smog equipment to make them fit because I realy dont want to do that.

I'm not sure which ones you should buy but i just want to warn you of a problem i've ecountered with the longtubes. Be sure that they have clearnce for the clutch cable. I've gone through five of them in one year because of them. They run right in front of the hole that my clutch slips into on the tranny casing. Maybe certain brands only work with certain casings. I havent' been able to find a label on mine yet so i couldn't tell you what kind they are. I bought the car with them already on in-case you were wondering.Good Luck!

I haven't had any problems burning clutch cables with my MAC 1-5/8", I had mine ceramic coated to make them last longer and look better. You do have to extend the o2 harness but I though every long tube had this issue just buy the kit from Interactive Tech to extend them. If you have a Lakewood or other SFI approved bellhousing you will have to notch out the passenger side flange to fit the tube through, I didn't have to take my steering shaft out but I did have to unbolt both motor mounts to install them, all my smog stuff fit fine as well but since I am in a state that doesn't require emissions it's all off now I would like to upgrade to the Bassani step headers 1-3/4"-1-5/8" they are really nice but are expensive $400.00+

My MAC's had to extend the o2's, i'm sure BBK are the same.
The reason is location of the boss in the collector, as opposed to the h-pipe.
To keep from burning clutch cables get the heat wrap(about $15 i think??)
A foil looking sheath to slip over the clutch cable.
No, the smog doesn't have to come off, but i took mine off(lots more room)
Also, i didn't get a kit to extend the wires, just took wire, spliced in new, soldered, and taped up.
Did it 3 years ago and no problems at all.
If you do leave the smog, you either have to cut a hole in the h-pipe to weld in the tube,
or use a catalytic h-pipe(it should have the hookup)

My 1 3/4 Hooker long tubes look awfully good. They don't have near as much weld build up in the head ports as the Macs. Just a little touch up grinding and they are ready to go. Also they do not have the deep dimples for header bolt clearance that the Mac do. I had to have my Mac shorties heated up and pushed out to make good flow. You can't go wrong with the Hooker. Hooker had the ceramic coated available too. That stuff will never rust.

Long tubes are "fun" to install, there is no doubt about it. When you do the install have a couple friends over. One to help with the jack while you wiggle, and the other behind the front wheel looking from the back to help guide you. This isn't necessary, but it helped me out a lot.

Buy new O2 sensors before the install unless they are new. My friend said he just went to Auto Zone and they had an O2 sensor for his 5.0 with longer wires. May be a good idea to check into it.

Well I just ordered it. It cost me about a grand for everything (with that kind of cash I could have bought heads) I got the BBK longtubes, shortie H pipe w/cats, and the 2&1/2" Flowmaster Force II cat back. I still have to install my factory five controll arms too. This is not going to be fun.

NOS_NOTCH. i did get the heat wrap but it didn't work alone. I ended up coating the wrap with high temp slicone sealer and wrapping that around the clutch cable. So far so good. it's been six months.I'm thinking about changing headers in the near future anyway.
Good luck with getting those longtubes in
