Default 5.0 with 7.5 rear??

Anyone ever seen a 5.0 mustang that came with a 7.5 rear end? I think I have just seen the first one. An 89GT, manufactured 09/88. It came with the 5.0 motor and it has a 7.5 rear end in it. WTF is this?? I thought all 5.0's came with 8.8 rear end. Someone had to put that 7.5 in there, or am I just kidding myself?

All pre-86 5.0's had the 7.5" rear. Don't know why an 89 would have a weak 7.5" rear in it.

Well, I was going by the diagram it shows in the summit book on pa ge 233 (old book). But after lookin online at richmond gear.com I may be wrong. Look at these pictures and the ones in the summit book. They are not the same. The 7.5 appears to be the same, but the 8.8 is different. The book does not show a hole in the center at the top and bottom. The internet does.

Go to http://www.mustanggt.org and click "Info by year," then click on 1986. I believe it says that it was the first year of the 8.8" in a fox.

Look at the shape of the diff cover. The 7.5 has rounded sides, the 8.8 has four straight sides with rounded corners. the pic you showed is a 7.5.

If there is a 7.5 in it, then somebody swapped it before you had it.

I finally got my *%*^(*! internet working again. Right when I was posting the pictures my internet took a dump on me. Here is the other picture I was trying to post. It has got to be the 8.8, it is the factory rear end. I was simply going by the diagrams in the summit book. Obviously, they have the diagram for the 8.8 turned 90 degrees. If you look at the two pics I posted, and then look in the summit book, you will see why I was misled. Sorry for the confusion.
