electric fan

this probaly a stupid question but
what would in need to hook up an elecrtic fan besides the fan.
and how would i go about hooking it up.

Will one 15" fan be good ?

I just bought an electric fan from summit. I havn't even put it on yet, but the instructions look pretty easy. It is a black magic fan, part # FLX-175. It has a 15" blade diameter and flows 2800 cfm. I bought this one, even thought it is pretty expensive ($200) because it comes with everything - wiring, temp. sending unit, A/C relay, etc. My friend had a 15" fan on his bronco that was rated at 1300 cfm, and it worked great even when we were wheelin and he was going real slow.

I have the same fan, works great. I recommend this fan.

i Have the bm fan too, it comes with everything needed, except the optional manual fan switch, so you can cut power to it, or adjust the temp from inside your car, i just get out and pop the hood for any adjustments.

i have the proform electric fan which is the knockoff of the BM. it is basically the same thing, only cheaper. the person who installed mine had to make up brackets for the bottom because it didnt fit correctly with my aftermarket radiator. the fan cools great and my car used to get hot in stop and go traffic. this keeps the baby cool. i also only use the manual switch so i turn it off and on when I want it! hope this helps, either way, you will be happy i think

I used an electrick fan off an old Trans Am I had. Was pretty easy install and cost a big nothing! I have no cooling problems at all

If you go to Jeggs they have the Proform fan P/N 778-67015 $117 it's exactly the same as the Black Magic only $72 cheaper. I installed one with a Griffith radiator on my 87gt 342 Stroker and it works great. It comes complete with and adjustable thermostat. The most difficult part was figuring out the best way to mount it. They give you mounting brackets but there sort of universal. I was able to use some of them but ad to make a few fro my application.

I also use a BM..Had ZERO probs installing it.And it fit perfectly on my new 3 row.

I have no temp probs anylonger either.I can sit in 90 plus weather and stay around 165-190.

I still haven't installed my BM fan, but I plan on doing it on Sat. My question is: Do you need to have a bigger/better radiator or can you use the stock radiator. My 90 lx doesn't have any cooling problems with the current radiator, so can I keep it?

well as far as i know you can keep the same rad i mean i don't see why to change it.

if it were me i would run same rad till that one went bad then but a better one in.

Aslso is it better to run direct power or have the fan come on at a sertan temp??

I don't know about connecting it up to direct power, but I am going to set it to run at a certain temp so I don't have to worry about it. The BM fan I bought comes with "everything" I need (hopefully) and I know it includes a temp sending unit.

There is no need to change you existing radiator when going to an electric fan if all is OK with you radiator. By going to an electric fan you will get better air flow (and better cooling) and free up a few HP from not driving it off the engine. Be sure your electrical system is in good shape too. If your driving a lot of aux electrical equipment like amps, stero etc you may want to upgrade your alternator if you haven't already. This is a common upgrade if you have a fox mustang.

It is best run through a relay and set the temp. That's what's so nice about the proform unit it's pretty complete. You may need to buy a circuit breaker (about $2) to install in line. the instructions that come with it are pretty clear. By having a thermostat you can set where you want the fan to come on at. Normallly you want it a something above your engind thermostat. Your engine thermostat set the low temp limit for the engine and the fas sets the hight temp limit. For example: I run a 185 degree engine thermostat and have the fan come on at about 195-200 degrees. Be sure not to set the fan thermostat too low or the fan will be running all the time. If you have a/c on your car the fan WILL run all the time the A/C is on.
