Default Help me run a 13.6

Hey guys, I wanna be able to run a 13.5 or 13.6 this summer. My mods are in my sig and I know that they aren't enough for mid 13's. My question is what else do I need? Will I pick up any horses by just changing the upper and lower intake without changing heads or cam? Will headers help me? What about a throttle body?

I am just looking for something fairly cheap that I can do in the next few months. This winter, I'm going to be getting an A-Trim so the REAL power will be coming....just not for a while. And please don't say nitrous...I don't want to fool with filling the bottle and not having the power there all the time. So are there any suggestions?? What will I run with my current combo? I'm going to the track in 2 or 3 weeks so then I'll have some solid times.

With those 4.10's, I'd say a set of slicks would be a half second improvement right there.

Would slicks fit on my pony rims?? I put 93 Cobra rims on and still have all four pony rims sitting in the garage. If those would work, I think slicks might be a good idea...

Do you mean 89GT factory wheels? if yes, thats a perfect wheel to start running slicks with, get the 26X8.5 Mickey Thompsons, they are the truest 26" slick around and the lightest.

Do you have any rear end suspension work done?

Can you make the finish line with those 4.10's with such a basic package?

if your engine is in good working order, than the mods you have now should get you there if you can drive it.

The biggest modification you can do to your car is free, you have to learn how to drive it like you stole it.

and about the slicks, your pony rims are 16" wheels. and i dont think there is much of a selection (if any) out there for a 16"

Easiest thing to do is to pick up some "turbine" (what your car came with from the factory, or some "tenhole/telephone dial" (LX factory wheels) which both are 15x7".
I have a set of 26x10" slicks on a pair of tenholes and they are a little too big for them, but still work well.
8.5" wide slicks would be perfect for a 7" wheel. Thats what I suggest you go with

Im pretty sure they make 16 in e.t streets, but the above idea is good, for dragracing a 15in is always the best imo.

Get a set of cheap headers and advance your timing to 14*. Make sure your cars in a good state of tune.

Get the slicks!

Get rid of your front sway bar.

make a ram-air setup.

Get a 65mm TB, and port match it to your intake.

If you want to pull your heads, do that, get a dremel or grinder and exhaust port them lightly, and mill them for compression.

I would definitely get some subframe connectors if you do go and get slicks. I think that you could also pick up some power with cobra 1.7 rockers. That should get you to your goal. Good luck man. Take it easy.

Well, I've decided that slicks are out of the question. While they would be cheap and improve my e.t. quite a bit, I won't use them that much. I do most of my racing on the street (safely) with only a handful of trips up to the track each year. The heads will have to stay on until winter when the car is out of comission. Then maybe I'll get some cheap GT-40's and try porting them.

I think what I have to concentrate on most is my driving. I just started driving stick last September so I don't really have too much experience with it yet. I think what I'll do is keep my current setup without any more mods. I want to run a 13.9 with my current setup before I move on to more power. After all, who knows, maybe I'm close to a 13.6-13.7 with some good driving...

You should get mid to high 13's with traction I would think. Good luck.

Will you be running at keystone, if so you'll see me there, I'm there just about every thursday. My dad has a 91GT, stock with 14* of timing and removed silencer ran 14.60 at 94mph. With: 3.55’s, Bassani offroad X pipe, 2.5” stainless steel flow tubes, Borla mufflers with turndowns, Comp. Engineering subframe connectors, Factory 5 upper and lower control arms, ASP aluminum underdrive pulleys, a Pro 5.0 shifter, a 76mm C&L MAF, a MAC cold air induction, and Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro tires he was running 13.6 at 98.99mph at keystone. Although I don't think you'll hook as good as he did, you should be able to rip off a high 13 with some practice. Good luck.

BTW, adding an edelbrock intake, 65mm t-body, FMS shorties took me from a 14.6 at 94.89mph to 14.3 at 97.2, adding nittos and a CAI took me to 13.83 at 98.55 in my heavy vert, then I added the heads, cam, and fuel upgrades and they took me to where I am now.

I'll touch on what Killercanary said. For me by changing the intake from stock to the Edelbrock Performer got me my first 13 second time slip (13.98 at 98 MPH). This was with the stock TB and MAF. I changed those to a 65 MM and Pro-M and my car went a best 13.73 at 100.77 MPH on stock heads, cam, fuel system and street tires. Here is the slip.

Yea, I'm going to be going to keystone. I'm going up with a buddy of mine (mak375) who has a black 94 Cobra. I'll look for ya killercanary. Have you been up there this year?? I heard that the track was bought by a different group last fall and they were suposed to lengthen the shutdown area and re-pave/smooth out the track itself. I hope something was done over the winter because last year, that track was in pretty bad shape.

I stopped by Keystone a few times... its night and day different. Check out Keystone Raceway for more details and pictures of the new lighting system. All the rumors are true, and the track is IHRA this year. Its going to be great, the new owners are really shaping things up. There may even be grudge match racing on fridays! It was supposed to open next thursday, but I've been told it has been delayed another week due to the rain (again), though I haven't looked under the racers news section today to see for sure.
