Question what is the capacity of the stock gas tank?

Is it 15 or 15.5 gallons or what? I squeezed 270 mi. out of one full tank. I am trying to prove to my dad that my car passes gas stations too.

Thanx

15.6 gallons to be precise. You must bet treating your Mustang right to be getting such good MPG.

Default MPG

Last tank I went 168 miles on 12.6 gallons of fuel. Every tank is the same unless I am really getting on it alot. Works out to be 21.25 miles per gallon.

Not too bad for a 5 speed with 3:55 gears in the city.

Bad89stang,

Yeah I hear ya. When I get on it the needle drops faster than a penny off the empire state building.

I did drop initial timing to 8 though until race day. I'll bump it back up to 13 or 14 on race day. With this setting it feels like i just lost alot of top end.

I don't know why but I only average about 11 mpg no matter how I drive the car. I just have the regular bolt on stuff: exhaust, gears (3.73) Drive shaft, etc... I can't wait to see what my new motor gives me!

IM SCARED TO SEE WHAT MY GAS MILEAGE IS GOING TO BE I JUST PUT A 3.73, HEADS, HEADERS, INTAKE, TB, MASS AIR, CHIP, AND JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER GOODIE THERE IS ON MINE, BEFORE ALL THAT I WAS GETTING BETWEEN 13-15 MPG, I ALSO PUT 24# INJECTORS IN. I GUESS I JUST DRIVE MY CAR A LITTLE HARD SOMETIMES, I GUN IT EVERY CHANCE I GET(PROB. WHY ITS MY 2ND MOTOR IN 2 YEARS.

Cool

I've never put more than 13.3 gallons in my 86', it's nice to know that there are a couple gallons left at that point.

I average about 18mpg in town and 23-25 on the highway. Stock w/2.73's.

is it just me or does the stock fuel guage suck? I have to fill up at 1/4 because I have run out twice when it even got close to the red.

Well to be more technically accurate, you have a 15.4 gallon tank, not a 15.6 gallon tank.

My 1987GT gets about 19-21 in town, and 27-29 over the road. The SEFI 5.0HO Mustang's do get very good fuel economy for the kind of car they are.

The stock fuel gauge sending units in the fox cars are notorious for wearing out. That's probably what the deal is for you Bad89stang

I may be confused but that's only 13 MPG
I guess I have to get my money for Calculus back

You guys are lucky.I only get a little under 200 miles on a full tank of gas. And the fuel gauge does suck. My gauge will be pegged past full sometimes and I know there is only a 1/2 tank.
