Yep that's pretty much the only way to port the uppper. Unless you cut it in half, hand port it and weld it back together. The lower can be hand ported though.

That is what I did to my old intake on my 88gt and it worked great but it was a pain in the a s s.

For the amount of money it would cost you'd be better off buying a new intake such as the Trick Flow for $395 or even the Cobra for about the same price. Unless your looking for a total street sleeper, I wouldn't think it's worth the investment. Just my $.02

That is what we did with my 88gt is try to make it look stock and make people wonder how I was pulling off 13.4 to 13.5 ET's on 225/60/15's only running a 2.0 to a 2.2 60ft.
We grinded the weld down and polished the intake so you could not tell it had been cut and re-welded; you could tell if you really looked hard and you knew what you were looking at but it looked great.

I started off doing it because I could not afford much at the time but when I started winning races and I told them it was stock, seeing the look on peoples faces when I popped the hood; well I hade to do more.

We opened the the mouth of the uper intake so much that one of the center bolt holes hade to be welded up.
