Default Spedometer

I have a common questions for 5.0s. How come the spedometer is broke? I have talked to many other 5.0 owners and found that they have had, or do have, problems with spedometers too. I have had my grandfather look at it with me and we can't find the problem. Could someone help me?

There's not much to the system.. it's either the speedo in the dash, the cable or the gear in the tranny... I would say it's most likly a broken/seized cable or the gear in the tranny.. or even it just came out... stick your head under the car and check the cable at the tranny and see what's going down

I already did check the gear underneath and I have pulled it out and put it back in. When the gear is spun the spedometer jumps up and down. That is even when it is out of my car. My grandfather thought it is probably my cable. I was just wondering if it was the spedometer itself before I went and bought something. Thanks...

ew... so you moved the gear by hand and the speedo in the dash moved? sounds like the drive gear in the tranny might be messed up.. though I dont know enough about this stuff to say anything for sure... so dont take my word for it... I dont wanna lead you astray

The 5.0 speedo is a piece of crap , just buy one off ebay for about 70 to 120 dollars, they usually sell for 100-120. I know I sure need to buy one.

Mine will wobble a lot and then eventually smooth out. I've been desperately trying to find a 200mph speedo. Anyone have any ideas where to find one? I know that Performance Parts, Inc. used to carry them.
