Default 351W Head Help

Again I am going to be the middle man asking another question for a friend. He recently purchased a new 351W. Its bare/untouched and brand new. He wants to use a forged 4340 393 Scat crank and forged 393 h-beam Scat rods with Probe SRS Pistons and not the Scat 9000 series crank and i-beam rods incase he decides to go with a blower or nos down the line. He doesnt know if this is a good choice or if he should just keep the 351 a 351 and put a blower on it? Most people are telling him he should be able to hit 475-500hp with good heads on a 393 and it will be streetable but that is where out question comes in.

He wants to use the Trick Flow R-Series 5.8L intake instead of the Edelbrock Victor 5.8L and I dont disagree with him on that. What do you guys think about the two intakes? He also wants to go with AFR 185's which I like because I have a pair I am going to put on my car but people have told him he should check out Fox Lake Racing and other places online and check out their Trick Flow heads because lots of people seem to be talking about Trick Flow heads in 351/393/408's. This car is only going to be almost a daily driven street car with maybe a handful of passes at the strip just to see what the car will run but nothing serious at all but street racing and cruising the highways and streets. The 185's cost only $1300 and the Trick Flows go for +$300 more than the AFR's for just stage 1 porting nevermind being assembled which brings them to more than $500 more than the AFRs depending on which ones you go with. Are the AFR's a good choice for the street or are the trick flows really worth the extra money. Please keep in mind he is trying to make a street engine and not a race engine and only wants something solid. Is the 393 the way to go or should he just build up the 351 without the 393 kit and put a blower on it? So many questions in one post sorry guys.

By the way his car is a 91 GT with everything else almost done to it but the engine/351 swap which will be done over the winter when he decides on what heads and intake to go with and what to do a blower or 393 stroker. Hope you guys can help us out a little bit on what we should do. Thanks again everyone you guys have been a great help take it easy

The 393 will make awesome, streetable power. The 351 with the blower will to, but will need more tuning. I say a 10.5:1 comp., custom hyd. roller cam, and stg1 Vic Jr's would be a awesome set-up. The motor will need a good intake, 75mm t-body, and the right fuel system. This should easily put 450-475rwhp down with a manual trans., and be mid-low 11's.

I agree with Bad86'418. You could go even go with a set of TFS'R heads right out of the box and have alot of room for future mods later if wanted. Or you could go with the AFR heads like the 205 or 225. I would not feel comfortable with the 185 heads on a 393 cubic inch motor or bigger engine. I believe the 185 heads should be left for the 302 based (even stroker) engines.
