Timing question

I tried useing a timing light last night. I can't see the indicator marks. I found the hole that you shoot through and the area that lights up. Has any one ever seen the numbers rust away?

they are really small......just sand the balancer a little and when you can see the numbers just mark them with some white out or a marker then go by the marks.

I thought we dont aim through the hole? The hole is fairly far down the balancer...the timing indicator is all the way on the other side of the plate. But besides that, do what he says. I had to crawl under the car and wipe away and lightly sand my balancer before I could see my numbers. But I discovered my balancer was losing rubber and throwing my crank for a wobble, so I replaced it immediately with a solid unit..no rubber to come out...MAN is it easy to time now.

I believe the shop that I brought my mustang marked the timing marks at 5 degrees with some kind of white marker. I believe all I need to know is how the round hole should be a refernce point. Should the 5 degrees be in the Middle, Top or Bottom.

you line up the marks with the flat side of the pointer...not the hole

Thankx guys. I will check it out tonight. I will use the flat spot instead of the hole. My balancer has already been marked.

Yeah, there should be a little dash and the word 'TIME' at the flat end...don't set your timing to the very end of the plate! Set it to the dash..it's a small ways to the left.
