Trying to stay ahead of local GM cars
I planned on buying a Central Coast Mustang GT-40P 302 longblock, but when I found out the local GM guys are building 11 sec cars this winter, I "sheet" my pants. Anyone build a 347 using Summit's 347 shortblock kit? It's has a cast 3.40" crank, forged 4340 5.4" H-beam rods and KB hypereutectic pistons. With a set of Fox Lake ported Canfield heads and a ported Edelbrock RPM intake, will I see 11's in a fully loaded '88 GT? What's the cheapest way to the 11's? I only have about 5 months.

i know how u fell most of the ls1 cars here in houston r low 11s or high 11s on motor then u put the gas to them and u have alot of 10 sec cars. i got the reaper kit ($3350) from excessive i got a bigger cam565lift with 1.6 ,and 1.7 roller rockers the best i got out of it has been 12.31 @111 on et streets 3:55 gears and the car only wieghs 2933 pounds.so it may take more than that to get 11swith a full wieght gt

the real way to be fast is to be different from what has become the norm in mustang upgrades. the fast people dont do what most everyone is doing. when you say whats the cheapest way to the 11s what exactly do you mean. whats your budget? it looks as if your budget is around 3000 to 4000$ if thats the case you have more than enough money. 11s are quite easy these days. a little tuning, some basic parts and youre there. if you were looking at 347 kits, why not go 351w. for around 4000 you can get 10s and you have room for improvement.

I'm in the middle of a swap to a 393 windsor at the moment. I'm keeping the vortech s trim that i had with the 302 by hopefully getting a bracket from alternative auto. I'm going with afr 185 heads. But i think for $4,000 you could put a pretty healthy 351 in it and run very good times. I have no idea what kind of times to expect from the blown 393 with 9:1 compression, but i didn't want to just tell all the guys that it has the old 302 or 347 in it. i wanted to be able to say it's a 393. Besides..... the 351 windsor block is stronger than a factory 302 block. that's a lot of the reason i decided to go windsor. If your serious about going fast i would look into swapping in a 351. It shouldn't be that tough with an aftermarket oil pan and 351 swap headers and the other misc. stuff. for $4000 i think it could be done.
