T-5 to AOD conversion q's
What's this cable that goes from shifter to steering column? I pulled the column to take the brake/clutch pedal assy out and I don't see where it hooks up (seen small pic. in Chiltons book). I'm guessing it's so you can't start car in gear. Is there something else I need?
Also I have T-5 rad. w/no hook-ups for trans cooler. Will an external cooler be sufficient? Should I try to find stock cooler lines and just connect them to external cooler or bend my own? I'm going to buy an aftermarket alum. rad. eventually, should I get the auto. one? Or should I do it right away and just forget about the external one (can always be added in future)?

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question.
However,I do have one for you, what are you going to do with your T-5 parts?? I'm in the process of gathering parts for the swap. Let me know if yours is for sale. TIA

thats exactly what the cable is for and so it cannot be put into gear with the keys out of the car. I wouldn't think that an external transmission cooler would be sufficient. I would definately purchase a radiator with an automatic cooler and put in an external transmission cooler, automatics HATE heat. The cooler they stay the longer they live

Thanks, but I still don't know if there is a special part I need to make the cable work. I might have to look at a friends auto stang to see what it hooks up to.
ByrdPE, I already sold them to Fusion2002. The only items I have left is: trans, flywheel, clutch fork/cable, stock shifter and Hurst shifter. What would you do: 1) Find used cooler lines 2) Try to find new ones 3) Bend my own lines (never done it before, but it seems it would be easy, but take more time)

I think that they started using that cable in like 90 or 91. I did just the opposite, pulled the AOD in favor of aT-5 and my car didn't have this cable.
I'm pretty sure you won't need to worry about that cable. I would actually think that a good external tranny cooler that you mount where theres good airflow will be sufficient until you get a new radiator. But I would sure take it easy on it till then

i would probably research the cost of new and used ones. if the new ones are decently priced then i would definately go with them. If not i would call mustang part specialties in georgia and see if they could sell the lines seperate. just make it very clear that you don't want no lines the have cracks or leaks. but they are pretty good guys so i don't think you will have a problem. if all else fails then i would try to bend my own
