Angry Idling Problems

I own a 95 GT Mustang 5.0L and I'm having Idling problems... I read on an earlier post that a lot of times it's the IAC Valve Gasket, I confirmed this with my Local Ford Dealership and purchased and install a new one. I had to take the distributor off to get to the IAC Valve to install the new gasket. The old gasket was worn a bit but seemed like it would do the job fine.

Everyonce in awhile when I come to a complete stop and start to apply the gas the car will either stall or drop to about 600rpms then it's fine after I get up to about 25 mph.

When I took off the distributor cap the rotor was a little corroded on the contact would that be a possible problem with the idling? The spark plugs are fine and like I said I just installed a new IAC Valve Gasket so that's not it.

What else should I do to try to remedy this problem?

The IAC gasket isn't the problem, it's that the valve gets dirty, and needs to be cleaned out with Brakleen (green can). Once that's done, reinstall it with a new gasket.

I presume you mean that you had to take the distributor cap off, rather than removing the entire distributor. Clean the contacts, apply a thin smudge of dielectric grease to the tip of the rotor, and button it back up.

When you're finished, reset the ECM by disconnecting the negative battery post, and then turning on the headlight switch to drain the capacitors, turn the light switch off, connect the battery, and test drive the car.

Take care,
~Chris
