Red face car dies on right hand turns!

If my gas level is low (1/4 or less) my car will temporarily die if I go around a righthand curve too fast. Could my fuel pump be going bad or is this normal? I have a 347 with a 190lph walbro pump,24lb injectors,65mm tb,76mm mass air. The car runs great other than this little quirk. Maybe I need to run bigger fuel lines?

No, its not the fuel lines. The fuel is sloshing away from the pump thereby you lose suction on the fuel pump.

Do you have a fuel pressure gage? This would help prevent stalling by knowing when you start to lose suction.

All of the fixes involve dropping the fuel tank except one. Check the installed height of the fuel pump to verify the sock is touching the bottom. Verify the sock is installed and didn't fall off. Verify your actual tank level with the gage. Maybe your tank really is about empty. A more difficult fix is installation of a trap doored baffled sump much like what fuel cells have (i.e. cobra r cell). And last just fill up sooner untill you find the source of your problem.

Good luck.

I gotta solution...always keep more than a 1/4 tank in the car! Hehe. Just kidding...although it's not a bad idea. I agree with moosejaw. The fuel is probably sloshing away from the pump causing fuel starvation.

I'll drop the tank and make sure the sock is on etc. The funny thing is it didn't do this with the stock motor.

Also check your chassis grounds. Voltage drops/high resistance connections can cause the tank level to read incorrectly.

Thumbs up

I dropped the tank today and found the sock was not completly on the fuel pump. I put the old sock from the stock fuel pump on and it fits better. No more problems with car dying when low on gas. Thanx for your help.

I'm glad I finally got one close to right!

Really I'm glad it worked out.
