Well guys - mystery is solved some of you said, "when you find it - it'll be something pretty stupid" You were right.... Turns out it was the pulley tensior, used a big breaker bar to tighten up the belt and the volts now across the starter selenoid is +14 which is what I want to see.

Thanx to all for racking the brains on this one. We're on the way to putting 500 miles on this new bad 331 to make it even badder with the Vortec T-Trim in this stangs future.

You said back in the beginning, when you took the cables off, the voltage came up. Thats because it took the load off the alternator, making it easier to turn, which caused the belt to stop slipping, causing the voltage to go up to where it was supposed to be !!! DHOOOOOOOOOOOO It's always obvious in hind sight !

Makes perfect sense now, although I still don't know why you didn't smell burning rubber or find rubber powder with the belt slipping that bad ??

we never had the car running long, it's a brand new crate motor. Voltage is where it should be as stated. We're trying to re-route the belt to give it more pulley coverage on the alternator. We're getting a lot of belt screaming at us now with an annoying scretching sound. Not the normal routing as we've removed the AC and PS, got the Vortec bracket on for the supercharger.

I'm going to put a new post seeing if others have our configuration and how they ran their belt.

Thanx again for all the support on this thread!
