Default Under-Construction

My son (16-year old) has taken a big interest in Mustangs - man I'm real happy for that as I've always been a Mustang guy. He likes the fox bodies so we found an 88GT that needed some good ole care car and re-assembly.

We've done several bolt-on mods to it - Centerforce clutch, MAC long-tube headers and 2.5 catback, Black Magic electric fan. Planning on underdrive pullies, upgraded alternator, and other goodies. Don't want to get too radical until my son proves he can drive with his head and not always with his foot. Once he does that we're looking at 3.73s, sub-frame connectors, and other performance enhancements.

Here's a couple of photos showing work in progress

Have u or your son ever posted those pics b/f, I think I've seen them b/f.

Along with the gears, u should get rid of the cats and put a 2.5" pipe straight all the way back.

Tell your son he smart for going to the best, I'm 19 and have always loved the mustang since as far back as I can remember.

My son could've posted pictures. I agree getting rid of the cats would be a good performance thing - but right now we need the car on the street. In Virginia there's strict emmission laws.

Long term is to possibly pick up another stang and fix that pony up for the track. Man you've got some real toys dude! Your 66 is it coupe/conv/or 2+2? I had two 66 Mustangs growing up both fastbacks with 289hi-perf..

I wanted to pickup a first generation stang - but my son likes the fox bodies..

Mustang_289, I'm originally from Lynchburg VA and when I leave the military next year, I plan on going back there. My question to you is what are the current emmissions laws there? When I lived there I had a 69 Grande, so I never had to worry about it, but now with my 88 I do. I assume that you still have to get the vehicle inspected every year, but how often do you have to pass a sniff test? Where are you located in VA? If you don't wanna post, just send me an email at DRStang69@aol.com. Thanks

Seems like you have a big project in your hands. Good luck on it hope you make it run like a champ. On a side note if your son ever comes home with a speeding ticket (i.e. 90 in a 25) don't get too mad at him. Especially if it's done after an increase in power. Sometimes it takes these acts to understand your mistakes. This was my first and hopefully my last ticket. The cop came out of no where on the street and I was screwed. That was with the fastback right after the engine had broken in. Not even the cop could believe I had gotten up to 90 and back down to zero in less than 3 blocks without locking the brakes. After this my driving habits changed drasticly. I was actually more scared of what my dad would say than having to see the judge. My dad took it cool and even jokes about it sometimes. As for the judge he didn't add points and fined me $161. Now I keep my foot controled. Funny how after years you still remember every detail.

My '66 is a coupe. Nothing speical. I picked it up for $500 running.
Needs a lot of work, but I can't wait to get it done.
