Question cam

I have a 93 lx 5.0 auto tran. that I am starting to mod. This is an everyday driver but I am looking for some more torque, any one have a suggestion on a cam.

I way stay away from cams till you have at least heads and an intake. There are some basics you can do first like bumping up your timing and setting your tps sensor and such. After that you can put in a 3.73 gear or 4.10's. Headers and a x-pipe or h-pipe with a good set of mufflers will be another good idea. I don't know how much money you want to spend but you can also put on a supercharger, nitrious or even a turbo. There a lot of things you can to a daily driver from improvement in power but a cam to start out with would be a bad idea. Especially for driveablity purposes.
my 2 cents

Default manifold & heads

What all have you done to the car so far? An aftermarket cam won't give you much/if any power improvement if you still are going to run the stock heads and manifold. Actually you'd lose some low end torque...as most aftermarket cams make their power higher up in the rpms. The stock heads, cam & intake make awesome torque in the lower rpms. I'd get some 3.73 or 4.10 gears in the rear...and all the bolt-ons. Throttle body, mass-air meter, underdrive pullies, K&N air filter, ignition. If you want to do a cam though...wait until you have the money to get aftermarket heads, cam & intake manifold all at the same time.

Lightbulb cam

Thanks for the advice. Tomorrow I am putting on a set of BBK eq. length headers, BBK H-pipe with cats, Ford Racing exhaust system; 65mm throttle body, 73mm mass air sensor, and a cold air intake. I was thinking of a cam next but I will wait and do the intake manifold next.

Gears would help you a ton with your auto tranny.

Forget the cam right now. Go with a set of 4.10 gears and good 2800 stall converter. You'll be amazed at the difference.
