Default blue box under dash

while checking vacume hoses on my air conditioning heater problem.in wich one was off.i noticed behind the air/heater controls ther is a light blue box with 2 electrical connections on one end.one is black the other is gray.the gray one was unplugged so i plugged it in and the box started to beap then stopped. does anyone know what this is and does it have anything to do with the heater/airconditioning thanks
