Can my car be beat by modern cars? If so when will they pass me
I kinda expect i can take vettes and other cars taht a fast but simply not as fast as me. LOL. Well the problem is althoguh i imagine i can whoop some *** eraly on i would guess they would slaughter me in top speed. I run low 11's real low 11's. So i figure most cars wont be able to touch me. However when will they be able to pass me as when i get into 5th my car struggles to get into any reasonable top speed. I have 3.73 gears. aorund 360 horses and 400 ft?ibs torquw. If possible compare the car to a new vette. THanks

I think with that much horsepower you should be able to hit 150 with those gears!
Why don't ya go out and test run it, and see? ------------------ Joe! 1988 GT, 167,000 miles!!! 13.71@105mph Check out my listing! Click here! Or my website: www.joe4speed.com 1999 Ninja ZX-6R 10.32@135mph! 1993 Olds Eighty Eight LSS |

You should be able to do 150 easy 373 with a 26 inch tire . maybe your shifting out of 4th to soon ?
I find for top speed my guts go before fith does. top speed by me 173 mph on christmas day between Halifax and Moncton The Cop was really nice turned his lights on a couple miles ahead of me gave me a severe verbal warning and then let me know he couldnt ticket me because his radar gun wouldnt go that high in kmh so he flicked it to mph which they cant use here. Other solution is a little bit of n20 for fith.... ------------------ 89 with 395 single stage n2o and 373's need suspention upgrade |

Liek near 170 to 180? I dont know the gears but i woudl imagine i would gain a good amount. The simple fact is i whoop peopel off the line but im sure someday some little punk is gonna whop me in like some old big lock caddy or something because he has higer top end speed or something......... and i will be pissed..... THANKS lol

Put that 6spd in, probably have to have 3:55's and about 450rwhp to hit 180 and the 6spd... i'm guessing.... the 6spd should help a lot though... i know the stock ls1's with the 6spd have sick top end.

they did a 200 mph mustang in either 5.0 or muscle mustang. they told you every thing you need to know about gear selection etc. i think it was the june muscle mustang, but i dont know. 170+ mph on the street is insane, you must have b@11s. be careful

If i wanted top end or a corner carver, i woulda bought a vette or viper, or porsche (yea right) if i was rich, anyway maybe an earlier vette, but i dont care about handling at 100mph or doing 200 topend, thats why i have a mustang with no front swaybar and some 4.10s about to go in the rear?? because i like leaving these topend cars staring at my tailights from a stop if i can, and a mustangs aerodynamics arent for 200mph runs, and if you try this, lower your car and have some z rated tires, and be careful, im not saying it cant happen but you would dump so much money in your car you might as well just buy a vette or ls1 that can do 160+....just my .02
Low end killer torque is why i love stangs, and the t-5 was geared to leave these yuppies in smoke!! think about it, where you gonna test the topend at? not on a public road i hope, these viper owners know what they can do, but never do it. |

It will take you over 700hp to get a Fox to hit 200mph. I'd bet 500 and proper gearing would get you to 180.
You will never see that speed on a public road though. It's insane how fast you'll be catching traffic, and the 5.0's aren't known for breaking power. Plus if you lose it, you'll die, and may take some innocent people with you. The do have a race where they shut down a road in NV or something where you can run flat out. |

Well have you ever heard of the silver state classic Chris Kauffman preped a stock 5.0 with a belt driven super charger and it AVERAGED 173 MPH thats get to speed and slow down . Also Montana didnt have a day time speed limit for a while.
Where do you get 700 Hp from and a six wont do to much good as the final drive is just about the same as a t5 in fith the extra gear is between 4 and 5 which helps keep the speed up . at bonnivile the gearing is key as 100 hp flatheads have hit 175+ ps you dont need top speed just keep it to the track . Also that run was before i had kids and now i avoid street racing and other activities that would put others at risk.(except at the track) |

you can do that fast on a public road, true its insane and unsafe, but you can. you dont have to do on main street at lunch time.

you've got to do alot of aerodynamic work to hit 200mph...underneath the car... 5th gear loses to much torque multiplication to be usefull, thats why they dont use overdrives in NASCAR etc... you'd need to build a pan to cover most of the chassis UNDER the car... thats where the most resistance is.. someone did that a few years ago..hit 201MPH... with the pan done... in 4th gear.. still not safe in the street at that speed... all it takes is a nail...even Z-rated tires are up to 170 I think.,..

Man you have got to be kidding if you run low 11's in the 1/4 and you maintain your speed after the quarter. it would take a stock vette 4 ever to catch you.

In 5th gear 150 is around 5000 rpm and 6000 would be close to 180. new vettes run around 175 or so top speed stock.

700hp comes from the Fox body Ford decided they wanted to make run 200mph. It actually put out 740hp from what they said. After shredding a few belts it was able to pull a 201mph pass.
Gearing is important yes, but all the gearing in the world cannot make up for lack of hp. 100hp making it to 175mph+? On a go kart maybe. A newer race bike with 140hp might pull 175. The C-5, one of the most aerodynamic sports cars made maxxes out low in the 170's with a rated 345hp. A Ferrarri F355 can see 180mph with 375hp and fantastic gearing. |

Cartech years ago made a 5.0 run 203 i am going to go through my mags tonight i know i still have that one
Nascar mandates what tranies you can use.max and min gears and number of gears. sports bikes actually have more drag than some cars espectially cross sectional. And gearing will make up for horsepower. ever seen a turn bridge ? or water mill ? At boniville alot of the cars are push started because they cannot get going with there gearing not enough power to turn the gears from a stand still . also in the 200 mph mustang i think they werent aloud to use n2o for some reason cant remember but they wanted it done on motor only. bad examples as the F355 is rev limited one mag did a roush preped mystic that ran 150 + stock body only minor engine work. Also look up the salt flat records . go carts aren't aloud. As for tires some top speed bodies have rules that make tech at the drags seam simple. race tires for anything averaging over 150 mph. will find the mag and stock body (no pans )records and post them . ------------------ 89 with 395 single stage n2o and 373's need suspention upgrade |
